Stronger Building Codes = Stronger Communities. Adopting modern building codes nationwide could prevent $171 billion in property losses by 2040. Research shows that updated codes and retrofits are critical to reducing storm damage. For every $1 spent on hurricane-resistant standards, society saves $5 to $10. But two-thirds of Hurricane Ian claims in Florida came from buildings that weren't elevated or built to modern standards. (Source below) The problem? Strong codes mean nothing without enforcement. City Detect automates citywide code compliance tracking using AI and vehicle-mounted cameras. Cities can identify vulnerable structures before disaster strikes, not after. Today is the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, a reminder that resilience starts before disaster strikes. Cities like Sacramento, CA and Greenville, SC are leading the way by turning proactive strategies into real-world impact. From Sacramento’s forward-thinking Emergency Management Division, which has everything residents need to prepare, weather, and recover from disasters (https://hubs.li/Q03N8fzH0) to Greenville’s use of City Detect’s AI-powered system to identify and prioritize post-disaster response, these communities show how innovation and preparedness go hand in hand (https://hubs.li/Q03N8f400) At City Detect, we’re proud to support cities that use data and technology to strengthen neighborhoods, protect infrastructure, and reduce disaster risk every day. 💡 #DisasterRiskReduction #ResilientCities #CityDetect #SmartCommunities #EmergencyManagement #Sacramento #Greenville

⚡ After a hurricane, not all neighborhoods recover at the same pace. Research shows that “low-income and minority areas are community recovery multipliers; the faster the recovery of these recovery multipliers, the faster the recovery of the entire community.” This suggests that “prioritizing these areas for recovery resource allocation could expedite the recovery of the overall community and promote recovery equality and equity.” We saw this first hand in our deployment in City of Greenville, South Carolina after Hurricane Helene. At City Detect, we help municipalities identify where support is needed most, so no community is left behind. 💡 Read the full case study on Greenville here: https://hubs.li/Q03N7Tcn0 Source: Liu, Chia-Fu & Mostafavi, Ali. National Good Neighbor Day Being a good neighbor means more than a friendly wave — it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels safe and seen. At City Detect, we empower cities to build those communities with smart tools that support voluntary compliance, beautification, and proactive urban care. As researchers Nguyen & Ahern note, “Neighborhoods with higher social cohesion can draw on collective strength to adapt, recover, and thrive in the face of environmental and social stressors.” (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2023). That’s why investing in strong neighborhoods isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about resilience. Communities with connected neighbors are better able to withstand challenges, support one another, and emerge stronger together. Here’s to thriving neighborhoods and the neighbors who make them great! #GoodNeighborDay #CityDetect #CommunityFirst #UrbanInnovation #SmartCities
