📢 Major carbon capture and storage (CCS) news from Google: Today, the company announced a first-of-its-kind corporate agreement to purchase most of the electricity generated by a new 400-MW natural gas plant equipped with CCS technology. The Broadwing Energy Center in Illinois will capture and permanently store about 90% of its CO2 emissions more than a mile underground. CEBA applauds Google's commitment to helping bring promising new CCS solutions to the market, ensuring clean firm electricity is available to support growing power demand. CEBA was honored to have the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Additional Chief Secretary Manu Srivastava from Madhya Pradesh, India, visit our offices last week. 🇮🇳   The Global Programs team had productive conversations with CSIS and Mr. Srivastava about how state-of-the-art de-risking strategies and groundbreaking solar and storage projects have unlocked investor capital to power Madhya Pradesh's energy transition, largely without subsidies.   We are encouraged by the success in Madhya Pradesh and how it may translate to communities around the world and in the U.S.

CEBA CEO Rich Powell had a great time discussing how the private sector is stepping up to provide innovative, reliable solutions to America’s energy needs. Rich joined Judith Lagano, Daniel Barcelo, Charles Hernick, Jeremy Harrell, and Sahil Jain to consider how communities and the federal government can best pave the way for private investment and economic expansion. This includes the critical need to provide certainty through reforms to permitting processes as well as expanding the nation's electric transmission capacity to support generation resources. #LAEnergySummit

Thanks to all who were able to tune in to our webinar yesterday to discuss CEBA's recent report, "Corporate Demand Drives Clean Energy," with analysis from REsurety. The analysis confirms that corporate energy customers are essential drivers of clean energy growth, contributing to over 40% of new capacity commitments and providing stable demand and financial resources for projects across major U.S. markets. Virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) and unbundled renewable energy certificates (RECs) play a critical role in reducing the number of projects in financial distress. Key takeaway from Sarah Mihalecz ⤵️ "The data in the study shows that corporate buyers are often the difference between a project getting financed or not with those long-term commitments as well as with unbundled RECs, which is a very significant finding. Essentially, without the corporate commitment, without that demand continuing, developers will be less able to advance new builds, there's a risk of higher cost, and significantly slower progress toward decarbonization."
