#AI took center stage at the 40th annual CMA Shipping conference where I shared my views on "What drives adoption of AI & ML in shipping?" 3 Key Takeaways: 1. Create a strategy for organizing your data - often scattered in e-mail, sharepoint, and other systems - in a way that makes it readily usable for AI use cases. 2. Ask your software vendors for their AI strategy and roadmap. Evaluate how their AI can add tangible value to your organization vs. current processes. 3. Pursue small projects to test AI applications, secure quick wins, then iterate into larger use cases across the organization. This forces your team to focus on "real AI" use cases and validate benefits before incurring significant costs associated with larger AI digital transformation. Thanks to panel moderator Nick Chubb | Thetius and fellow panelists (in order from left to right): Katherine Mattikow | TankerWise Maria K. | signalfusion.ai Arman Spinola-Khazami | American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Konstantin Matveev | Elcome International LLC & CNITA (Chart and Nautical Instrument Trade Association) #CMAShipping #MaritimeAI #Stamford

🚢 What does the future of shipping look like? At CMA Shipping 2025, Youri Hart, CEO of Port-IT B.V. and VP Products & Solutions at Marlink, shared insights on how regulations like UR E26 and next-gen connectivity solutions are shaping the maritime industry. ⚓ For a deeper dive, check out Episode 46 of The Last Dinosaur – Maritime Shipping in the Digital Age where Youri and I discuss several topics including the growing importance of cybersecurity in fleet operations. We also tackle the real-world impact of IACS UR E26, which mandates enhanced cybersecurity standards for ship control systems 🎧 Listen to Youri’s episode here: https://lnkd.in/eTaGmX53 🛡️ What is UR E26? It’s a cybersecurity requirement from the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) that applies to onboard systems controlling essential ship operations. Think of it as a critical step in making ships as secure as they are smart. 📖 Learn more here from Lloyd's Register: https://lnkd.in/eEqRMiBN 👇 What’s your take on how cybersecurity and connectivity will define the next 5 years of maritime? #TheLastDinosaurPodcast #MaritimeTech #CyberSecurity #UR26 #DigitalShipping #CMA2025 #PortIT #Marlink #IACS #MaritimeInnovation #StayCuriousStaySalty

💭 Question: Where do you see the #shipping industry in five years? 🎤 We took to the show floor at #CMAShipping last week and posed the question to Patrick Ryan, Senior Vice President and CTO at American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), who told us that while there's a lot of change on the horizon, there is also a lot to be excited about across decarbonisation, digitalisation, and AI. 👇 We'd love to hear your thoughts. Where do you think your industry will be in 2030? Let us know in the comments below! #CMAShipping #Maritime #ShippingIndustry

💡 CMA Shipping is over for another year, so we're sharing some of our highlights from this year's show. Today, we're looking at the Commodores' Debate, which came one day after North America's new global tariff announcement. 💬 Moderator Matt McCleery of Marine Money steered the debate, guiding panellists Lois Zabrocky, Morten Arntzen, John Hadjipateras, Peter Evensen, Michael Tusiani, and of course, 2025 Commodore Todd Clough, through geopolitics, future fuels - and of course, the impact of a broad new tariff regime. 🔎 Seatrade Maritime reporter, Barry Parker, joined the session, and you can check out his expert coverage here: https://lnkd.in/dtrVcJKJ #CMAShipping #MaritimeIndustry #TradeTarrifs

The 40th CMA Shipping event was my first. For such a global industry, the people in maritime are an intimate and well-acquainted bunch. A huge thanks to my DNV colleagues for the support and encouragement and for the warm welcome by an established community. DNV gave keynotes, hosted special sessions, and partipated in panels where we shared insights and knowledge on everything from industry outlooks to nuclear-powered ships. It was a great week and I look forward to working on the challenges we have ahead of us! Wrapped up a great couple of days at CMA Shipping where I had the chance to speak on the “Leadership Forum - The diversity mandate” panel. It was a real privilege to sit alongside people who are pushing for actual progress - not just talking about change, but doing the work, asking the uncomfortable questions, and trying to figure out what real inclusion looks like on board and ashore. There’s still a long way to go but there are people in this industry who genuinely care about getting it right. Grateful to CMA Shipping and Ioana (Joanna) Crisan for the invite and for creating the space to have these conversations.

Great to have spent a few days at CMA Shipping - always a well put together conference with a high calibre of gifted speakers and thought leaders, as well as a lot of fun in the margins. Honoured to have shared a platform with Heidi Heseltine Elpi Petraki David Taylor and Alex Downes who gave thoughtful insight into the topic of DEI and how we can do more to ensure everyone feels part of the maritime story. DEI is a thorny issue in parts of the world, but regardless of the culture wars it's often associated with, it's about recognising the inherent dignity and diversity of everyone. True inclusion drives new thinking and enhances our common experiences. Let's pledge to do all we can to ensure everyone feels seen and heard and valued. Thanks to the panel for your thoughts! (And thanks to @veronica for the picture!)
