What impact can 218 volunteers have over just 8 days at our orchard? 171,860 servings of apples are making their way into our community, that's 26,000+ pounds! From clean picking our trees to sorting 2nds for cider press, none of this would have been possible without their help. 180 volunteers helped flip our Grafton fields 180 degrees, clearing fields in preparation for winter crop cover. Our high tunnel is brimming with new crops of greens as we look forward to year two of harvesting for a Thanksgiving donation. As of this Month, the State of Massachusetts has reinstated the HIP program. This program provides families currently utilizing SNAP with a 1:1 dollar return on their EBT cards when they purchase fresh produce from local farmers at farmers' markets, farm stores, or other verified local retailers. Families of 1-2 people can get up to $40 back per month, families of 3-5 get $60, and families of 6+ get $80 per month. Did you know, if you have SNAP, you have HIP too! Massachusetts residents on SNAP automatically receive HIP benefits. Now that you know, go get your fresh local produce! As summer winds down, our apple harvest continues to pick up! With just 13 mornings of volunteer groups having visited our Harvard orchard, we’ve already prepared over 41,000 pounds of apples for donation to our hunger relief partners. That’s over 265,000 servings! This week we send thanks to Bristol Myers Squibb, UMass Chan Medical School, Dell Technologies, The TJX Companies, Inc., Catania Oils, and AvalonBay Communities.
