Welcome.US is launching a new grant initiative dedicated to Supporting Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) families.
During our August Welcome.US at the Table webinar, we introduced the Welcome.US Sponsor Fund program, designed to financially support sponsor groups who want to match with Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) families and support them in establishing their new lives in the U.S.
To be eligible for this funding opportunity, you must be sponsoring a family through the Sponsor Circle program. Our Welcome.US sponsor fund grants can provide additional financial resources to support the sponsorship process.

The need for welcome is still great, and so is the capacity of everyday people to make a difference. In Massachusetts, sponsors welcomed Haafiz, an Afghan computer engineer who fled the chaos in 2021 with his family and spent four years seeking a place to rebuild their lives. This story illustrates how ordinary acts of welcome transform lives of newcomers and the Americans who welcome.
Liz Davis-Edwards WelcomeNST has witnessed how the work changes lives on both ends: “We always talk about giving as something that helps others, but the real beauty is that it changes you.” She added, “The power of community at its best is loving our neighbor. It’s the simplest thing.”https://lnkd.in/gFgsT7A3
“When Kabul fell, it wasn’t just the country that fell. It was the fall of everything we had built. It was the fall of hope.”
Before Aug. 15, 2021, Rokhsar Oria and her family lived a happy, stable life in Afghanistan. But when Kabul fell to the Taliban, their work with the U.S. made them targets, and they were forced to flee.
Their story echoes that of over 75,000 Afghan allies who left behind careers, homes, and memories to seek safety in the U.S.
Four years later, Welcome.US honors the resilience of Afghan newcomers. We continue to support their path forward through our partnerships to bring Afghan Special Immigrant Visa holders to safety through private sponsorship.
Join us for a webinar, Welcome.US at the Table: Remembering our Afghan wartime allies, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, as we dive deep into the policies and current efforts impacting our Afghan allies, and explore how you can support Afghan newcomers.
