Your agents are only as good as the tools they use. Here’s a small lore behind how we realised optimising tools can lead to a step shift in agent performance. A few months back, we discovered through our anonymised tool execution logs that some Firecrawl actions were failing with an exceptionally high rate. When we manually tested, it worked fine, but when we tested it with agents, the numbers were way off. The agent was correctly specifying the scrape options as JSON. Still, the FireCrawl API needs jsonOptions parameter to be passed when JSON format is selected. The solution? Add “If format is json, jsonOptions is required” to the description, and voila, the failure rate went to zero. Now imagine doing the same across 1000 apps with around 20,000 tools, and we actually did it, not just the description, but many other improvements that made our tools 2x more reliable on an average agentic workflow.
