Speaking today at the Constructive Dialogue on Firearms on behalf of the ATT Monitor and Control Arms, Andrea Edoardo Varisco highlighted different areas of complementarity between the Firearms Protocol and the Arms Trade Treaty, and ways in which implementation of the two instruments (including through the use of data from the ATT Monitor Arms Transfers Dashboard) can strengthen the prevention of illicit arms transfers.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has today released alarming new data showing that global military expenditure has reached its highest level ever recorded. Spending has surged particularly across Europe and the Middle East, driven by ongoing conflicts, heightened tensions, and an accelerating global arms race.
