The COP29 Presidency has completed its attendance at the Pre-COP in Brasilia, the final set of negotiations before COP30 in Belém. During the summit, the team called on all Parties to deliver on their climate finance promises as we collectively strive to achieve Brazil’s vision of an implementation COP. In particular, the COP29 President and Lead Negotiator called on all parties to deliver progress on adaptation, and ensure that they maintain momentum and focus on the Baku Adaptation Roadmap, which will be a useful tool in advancing the Global Goal on Adaptation. #COP29 #COP30

The COP29 Presidency team has arrived in Brasília to participate in the Pre-COP, the final round of ministerial consultations ahead of COP30 in Belém. At this crucial milestone on the road from Baku to Belém, the COP29 Presidency will call on all Parties to honour the commitments made at previous COPs and stand with Brazil to make COP30 yet another success for multilateralism. #COP29

The COP29 Presidency co-hosted a flagship climate dialogue on sea level fluctuations and unequal consequences with the Commonwealth Secretariat at Marlborough House in London. Addressing the event, Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of IDEA, emphasized the urgent need to protect the Caspian Sea, highlighting that protecting nature means protecting humanity. Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President and Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues, called for global solidarity for the Caspian Sea and highlight Azerbaijan cooperation with UNEP and other organisations and countries to combat the Caspian Sea’s decline. He also reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to supporting Small Island States, which face existential threats from rising seas. The event brought together the COP29 Presidency with leaders from the Commonwealth and international NGOs to champion climate solidarity and practical action ahead of COP30. The COP29 Presidency is in London to co-host a Flagship Dialogue on Sea Level Fluctuations and Unequal Consequences alongside the Commonwealth Secretariat. This event will highlight the environmental, economic and human challenges arising from both sea level changes.
