Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility, and we take it seriously. To help new employees understand their role during disasters, the County recently launched its first onboarding training for Disaster Service Worker (DSW) responsibilities. The three-hour session introduced about 50 new team members to key topics in Emergency Management, Personal Preparedness, and Workplace Safety and Risk. Through three modules—Emergency Management and the DSW Role, Personal Preparedness (led by ReadyMarin), and Workplace Safety and Risk Management (led by the County Safety Officer)—employees gained practical tools to stay prepared at home and work. By investing in staff preparedness, the County strengthens its ability to respond to wildfires, earthquakes, power outages, and other emergencies. Even employees who may never enter the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) play a vital role in ensuring County operations continue during a disaster. For those who want to learn more, the County also offers a bi-monthly EOC 101 course that explores how coordination, communication, and teamwork support our community when it matters most. Preparedness starts with each of us. Visit ReadyMarin.org to build your emergency plan and explore free resources to help keep you, your family, and our community safe.
