Big news about the next chapter for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art! For the last few years, we’ve been working on a major expansion that will allow us to welcome even more visitors and continue our mission to welcome all to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of nature. Alice, Moshe, Rod and I are thrilled to announce that the expanded Crystal Bridges will open the weekend of June 6 and 7, 2026 — just in time for America’s 250th birthday. This monumental project will reimagine our galleries and create new ways for us to be a place for storytelling, community building, and conversation. This past Monday, we shared BIG news: Crystal Bridges’ expansion will officially open on June 6–7, 2026! To mark this milestone, we hosted a special event in New York City with members of the arts and culture press, joined by Alice & Olivia Walton, our executive director Rod Bigelow, and visionary architect Moshe Safdie (Safdie Architects) whose design continues to shape the future of our museum. Guests enjoyed a true taste of Arkansas thanks to our friends at Onyx Coffee Lab. A special thank you to the Ford Foundation for hosting this unforgettable moment. The countdown to 2026 begins now—we can’t wait to welcome you into this new chapter of Crystal Bridges.

🎨 MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT 🎨 We're excited to announce that Art Bridges Foundation and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art have acquired 90 contemporary Indigenous artworks from the John and Susan Horseman Collection! This landmark acquisition means Indigenous perspectives—foundational to any American art collection—will reach communities nationwide through our museum partnerships. ✨ The impact: - 81 works join the Art Bridges Collection and are available for loan to museums across the US, free of charge. - ONE THIRD of the Art Bridges Collection is now contemporary Indigenous art. - 9 works join the Crystal Bridges permanent collection What this means for access: These works will travel to museums nationwide—from major cities to rural towns—ensuring they reach communities who may not otherwise have an opportunity to experience contemporary Indigenous art. Starting in 2026, visitors to Crystal Bridges will see select works right here in our own backyard, as part of the museum's expansion and gallery transformation. This fall, selected works will also be featured in the opening exhibition at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, highlighting the importance of art in personal and community wellbeing. The collection features works by Kent Monkman, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, T.C. Cannon, Rose B. Simpson, Fritz Scholder, George Morrison, and others, spanning a wide range of media from sculpture to painting, print, and textiles. Crystal Bridges is honoring the first graduating class of the University of Arkansas School of Art Master of Art History program. 🎓👏 The M.A. program, the Tyson Scholars of American Art Program, and Crystal Bridges and the Momentary’s artist-in-residence program are all part of a community of scholars in the arts ecosystem in Northwest Arkansas. 🎨 Cross-collaboration between these partnerships fosters creative scholarship, mentorship, and community engagement in the arts. Crystal Bridges and the University of Arkansas Department of Art also collaborated in 2025 to fund a project titled “Animal Stories: Non-Human Animals in the Arts of the Americas.” The project, led by 2024-2025 Tyson Scholar for Graduate Mentorship and Collaborative Initiatives Dr. Jennifer Marshall, explores how animals appear in art and how artists tell creative stories about them through history — bringing together researchers who study art, objects, and visual culture, and who are interested in experimenting with new ways of writing history. 🎓Congratulations to the graduating class of Art History M.A. students — Alexander Betz, Raven Cook, Djamila Ricciardi, Ella Nowicki, Ibby Ouweleen, and Larissa Randall. Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year will be accepted in Fall 2025. 💡A special thank you to the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation for their generous support of the M.A. art history program. #CrystalBridges #uarkart #fulbrightcollege #TysonScholars
