As our Mental Health Awareness Month series draws to a close, we're exploring personal breakthroughs that foster lasting well-being in the legal industry. As DISCO's Alisa McLellan puts it: “Recognizing when I need help has been a major personal breakthrough. In ediscovery project management, it’s easy to fall into the mindset of ‘it’s just easier if I do it myself.’ But learning to delegate and trust others’ work is a crucial skill, playing a vital role in protecting my mental health. Asking for help isn’t a weakness, it’s a strategy for sustainability.” This isn't just about productivity; it's about building a career that sustains you. For more essential strategies to combat stress and build resilience, read Alisa's blog on mental health & resilience in the fast-paced world of ediscovery here: https://lnkd.in/gggVq3kR

When law firms and corporate legal teams run an RFP for ediscovery, they’re choosing between different service providers that all offer the same technology. The differences come down to pricing, plug-ins, and professional services. That’s because the ediscovery market is crowded with vendors reselling the same tech. A shop in Chicago. A shop in New York. A shop with an analytics add-on. A shop with a managed review discount. Run an RFP and you’ll get a dozen pitches for the same core product. There’s no real technology difference. DISCO is different. We’re not a Relativity vendor. We’re not a service provider cobbling together third-party tools. We built our own software, designed from first principles, to solve the actual problem: giving legal teams a true end-to-end platform with AI-driven automation that reduces manual work. If you want to compare prices for the same old thing, run an RFP and choose from a bunch of Relativity vendors. But if you want a real technology advantage, you need to look beyond the resellers of yesterday’s software.

In our ongoing Mental Health Awareness Month series, DISCO's Sheru Kadam, CEDS confronts the idea that success means constantly pushing limits. It's a narrative many legal professionals know well, and it's time to reframe it: “Setting boundaries is an act of self-care, allowing you to honor your needs and well-being. As lawyers, we’re often expected to just push through: always achieving, never pausing. We are often taught from childhood that we must do everything on our own, but reaching out when you need help is a sign of strength. Real progress comes with recognizing your mental and physical limits, and knowing when it’s time to slow down.” How do you challenge the "push through" mentality in your own career?

Document review is often treated like a commodity. The cheaper, the better. But what happens when “cheap” leads to missed privilege calls and bad issue tagging? A friend recently shared a horror story. His firm switched to a 90% remote, low-cost contract review team. Review speeds dropped from 50 docs/hour to 25. Quality nosedived. Privileged documents slipped through. Clients were furious. This is the hidden cost of bad review. At DISCO, our review team isn’t just a rotating cast of temp attorneys. They’re trained, credentialed professionals. They're experienced in high-stakes matters, globally coordinated, and backed by AI-driven efficiencies. That means faster, more defensible, and more accurate reviews. Cutting corners on review doesn’t save money. It costs more in the long run: missed issues, blown deadlines, and frantic second passes to clean up mistakes. You get what you pay for.

Building a personal toolkit for mental health is vital, especially in high-pressure fields like legal. In our ongoing Mental Health Awareness series, Arnaldo Pereira shares one powerful tool in his arsenal: “What’s really helped me manage my mental health is developing a mindfulness or meditation practice. Just spending 20 minutes alone focusing on my breath–not forcing thoughts away, just letting them pass–made a big difference. It sounds simple, but that small habit shifted how I approached the rest of my day. Without it, the stress of being an attorney would have overwhelmed me. Different techniques will help different people, but the key is finding what helps you to manage the pressure.” Arnaldo found his key in mindfulness. What’s one habit you swear by for your mental wellbeing? Let us know in the comments!
