U.S. farmers are bearing the brunt of China's retaliatory trade policies. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)'s Philip Luck presents original research conducted by the Economics Program (Philip Luck, Hugh Grant-Chapman, and Duc Minh Nguyet Nguyen) on current trends in U.S.-China agricultural trade and what comes next for farmers caught in the crossfire. Striking Statistics: - Since January 2025, U.S. agricultural exports to China are down 73 percent, over 6.8 billion dollars. - China's import of U.S. beef is down 94 percent since January 2023. - Despite the soybean harvest being well under way, U.S. soybean sales to China have all but zeroed out.
