We had the honor of interviewing the incredibly talented founder, and renowned Chef, JJ Johnson, who talked about the importance of food, culture, and community—three things that keep us connected, and fuel the work we do. Congrats to Mia Chu, our new Vice President of Academics and Special Services! Mia has been instrumental in strengthening differentiated support across our regions, scaling impactful coaching strategies such as partnership days, and launching key initiatives like the New York High School Regents professional learning communities. Her work has already begun to shape the next chapter of excellence across our classrooms. As VP, Mia will continue supporting school leaders and our Academics team to ensure that instruction and the overall academic experience are exceptional in every classroom, for every scholar. She will also coach our Special Services team, helping to deliver world-class supports and interventions that reach all students. Meet Tameka Royal, our new Chief Schools Officer! This is a homecoming for Tameka, as she served as a founding teacher and school leader at Democracy Prep in New York City early in her career. Tameka is a transformational education leader with nearly 20 years of experience and a relentless passion for equity and student achievement. She has served in various roles from teacher to superintendent, and she proudly serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia University, Relay Graduate School of Education, and Deloitte's Courageous Principals program. Tameka specializes in innovative coaching and professional development to drive remarkable and sustainable outcomes for scholars, educators, and communities globally.
