Six DeSimone projects will be included in this year’s Open House New York, a city-wide festival showcasing over 300 destinations across all five boroughs taking place October 17-19. Visitors can stop in for a behind-the-scenes look at new buildings, city infrastructure facilities, parks, manufacturing workshops, private collections, performance spaces, and more. The five included are The Willow, The Brook, 1290 Avenue of the Americas, New York Historical, Sendero Verde, and Miramar.
Developed by Naftali Group and designed by COOKFOX Architects, The Willow offers 19 floors of luxury residences and a suite of amenities. Led by Managing Principals Mukesh Parikh, PE, and Borys Hayda, PE, and Senior Associate Matthieu Peuler, P.E., our structural engineering team tackled complicated challenges such as loggias and terraces on upper floors, requiring several column transfers, completed over an expedited timeline.
A bold new residential tower shaped by its urban complexity, The Brook exemplifies the ingenuity of our structural engineers and façade and building envelope specialists. Working in close collaboration with developer The Witkoff Group and architect Beyer Blinder Belle, DeSimone’s structural engineers, led by Principal Luis Ramirez, PE, and Senior Associate Milo B. Adams, PE, and our façade team, led by Principal Rok Lee, AIA, and Senior Associate Whitney Boykin, AIA, LEED AP, created the post-tensioned, cast-in-place structure and unique, curtain wall façade.
DeSimone’s other contributions include the new rooftop pavilion at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, designed by Fogarty Finger with a DeSimone structural engineering team led by Managing Principal James Bonnano, PE, and Project Manager Ben Isham, and the New York Historical renovation and expansion, designed by RAMSA | Robert A.M. Stern Architects, with a DeSimone team also led by Managing Principal James Bonnano, PE, and Project Manager Irene Lin, PE.
The courtyard of the award-winning Sendero Verde—the largest residential Passive House in the United States—is also featured, with a tour led by AECOM. DeSimone’s structural engineering team was led by Managing Principal Mukesh Parikh, PE, Senior Associate Lokanath Nagaraja, PE, and Senior Project Manager Satish Godhwani, P.E.
Open House New York participants will also be able to tour Miramar, a mixed-use development in Inwood that includes the first permanent home for The People’s Theatre, developed by L+M Development Partners LLC and Taconic, and designed by Beyer Blinder Belle. The DeSimone structural team was led by Managing Principal Mukesh Parikh, PE, Senior Associate Lokanath Nagaraja, PE, and Senior Project Engineer Omar Shahid, PE.
