In my experience working with young tech talent, three qualities stand out as the strongest indicators of their success: 1/ mindset, 2/ resilience, and 3/ leadership character. I've seen this firsthand at Discover Financial Services' Advanced Analytics Resource Center (AARC). We recruit top university graduates and, over a one-to two-year program, equip them with essential analytical, professional and technological skills. Through technical development and ongoing coaching, we nurture their curiosity by exposing them to rotating business areas. And while technical skills are table stakes, it is leadership character that separates the high performers. This winning combination has led to new innovations and cost-saving automation for Discover. Since the program’s inception, 146 participants have completed the program and transitioned into various data science and analytics roles across the company.
