After more than three decades, new DNA technology has helped provide long-awaited answers in the 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop murders. In partnership with the Office of the Texas Attorney General and the Austin Police Department, DNA Labs International was able to provide critical leads that resulted in the identification of a person of interest in the tragic murders of 17-year-old Eliza Thomas, 13-year-old Amy Ayers, and sisters 17-year-old Jennifer Harbison and 15-year-old Sarah Harbison. Through advanced STR testing on DNA recovered from the scene, investigators compared the evidence to an existing DNA profile of Robert Eugene Brashers. We are honored to collaborate with the many dedicated individuals, laboratories, and law enforcement partners who have worked tirelessly to bring answers to the victims’ families and the Austin community. Exciting news! We are launching two new services that will give you better genealogy results for all of your cases: SNP array for body fluids and reference testing, and SNP triage™ for quality evaluation. The SNP array is the most cost-effective method for generating a SNP profile and is ideal for high quality, single source samples like body fluids or references. Our fully validated service keeps your evidence safe and chain of custody intact by offering this SNP testing method in house. SNP triage is a comprehensive analysis of the evidence to determine the best SNP testing strategy. By determining key factors like DNA quantity and quality, bacterial contamination, and shallow sequencing results, we can recommend the right SNP testing method for your case while keeping your budget in mind.
