We save & heal lives through organ & tissue donation for transplantation and research in Northern CA and Northern NV.

About us

Donor Network West is a federally designated nonprofit, 501(c)3, organ procurement and tissue recovery organization (OPO) with headquarters in Northern California and Northern Nevada. Established in 1987, we serve more than 13 million people and connect a donor’s gift to those in need in 45 counties in Northern California and Northern Nevada. Organ, eye, and tissue donation offers the hope to heal. The generous decisions of donors and their families allow us to recover and allocate organs and tissues for transplantation and research. We are able to carry out our mission of saving and healing lives thanks to our partnership with 175 hospitals, doctors, nurses, more than 500 funeral homes and 44 coroners and medical examiners. Donor Network West is proud to be a Donate Life organization and an accredited member of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). We are additionally members of Donate Life California and Donate Life Nevada. Join our mission: https://www.donornetworkwest.org/careers/

  • National Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day is dedicated to education, awareness, and access to information about post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Every breast cancer survivor’s journey is unique, and BRA Day serves as a reminder that no one has to face it alone. Too often, women are not fully informed about their reconstruction options and studies show fewer than one in four receive the necessary information at the time of mastectomy. BRA Day seeks to change that by ensuring women know their choices and can make decisions that support healing and quality of life. Donated skin grafts have improved outcomes for thousands of women, reducing the impact of mastectomy and helping survivors move forward with confidence. #BRADay #BreastCancerAwareness

  • Donor Network West is proud to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day, honoring our Native American community, their rich history, and incredible contributions to this nation and the world. We have the privilege of featuring Marissa Hemstreet, a Communications professional for the Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley and a proud member of the Navajo Nation (Canoncito Band of Navajo), about how important it is for her to serve her community. “I’ve been with IHC since 2014. I first came here as a patient, and the care and support I received inspired me to join the staff so I could make the same kind of impact on others. When I first moved to San Jose, I didn’t have health coverage, but IHC helped me through their Ross Grits program. I started as a Fitness Coordinator and today I serve as the Communications Coordinator in our Intertribal Resource Department, where I’m proud to support my Indigenous relatives and the broader San Jose community.” - Marissa Hemstreet On August 13th, Donor Network West’s Hoa Ha led an informative and engaging presentation at IHC's talking circle about organ donation. He addressed common myths and misconceptions, provided valuable education on the life-saving impact of donation, and also joined participants in arts and crafts and a fun Q&A session. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #NativeAmericanHistory #MyDNWest #DonorNetworkWest #DonateLife #DoneVida

  • “He definitely made an impact in all the lives that he touched, including up to the very end of his life where he became a donor.” My husband Victor born in Cali, Colombia, will always be remembered for the wonderful and helpful human being that he was in our Hispanic/Latino community. He served our community as one of the best paralegals that I’ve ever met. Victor always went out of his way to help others, so humble and dedicated. He loved to play the drums, travel, wine, and dine. He definitely made an impact in all the lives that he touched, including up to the very end of his life, where he became a donor, and a part of him continues living in his purpose of helping others. He is deeply missed and will never be forgotten. I love you more than words can express. ~ Edith The need is great. Of the over 20,000 Californians on the organ transplant waiting list, 44 percent of the Californians waiting are Hispanic. Like other minorities, Hispanics have the best chance of a successful organ transplant if the donor is of the same ethnic background. We invite you to explore, utilize and share these National Hispanic Heritage Month materials within your communities and help Donor Network West spread the awareness about our life-saving mission. • National Child Health Day is on the first Monday of every October, where we show our support of children’s health, family, and those who work hard to help them. As of today, there are more than 2,200 children on the national transplant waiting list in the United States. This year, more than 1,200 children received lifesaving transplants, with almost 50% of those who received transplants being under the age of 5.
