  • Ellis County Commissioners have voted to appoint former State Representative John Wray to fill the County Judge seat beginning May 15th, when Judge Todd Little will vacate the position. Last month, Little was selected to be the new Executive Director of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). Wray will complete Judge Little’s term through the election in November 2026, when citizens will vote for the next Ellis County Judge.   Wray previously served on the Waxahachie City Council from 2008 – 2014, ultimately being elected Mayor in 2013. Chosen as the “Most Influential Person” in 2011 by readers of the Waxahachie Daily Light and Midlothian Mirror, Wray was elected to represent District 10 in the Texas House of Representatives in 2015, where he served on the Ways & Means, Public Health, Calendars, Transportation, and Homeland Security & Public Safety committees.   Welcome, Judge John Wray!   Photo: John Wray interviews with the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court on May 7th.

  • Jake Joseph Escamilla (December 9th, 1951 – April 25th, 2025) “Chief Escamilla leaves behind a legacy of hope and perseverance for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As Chief of Ellis County Emergency Services District #6 (Waxahachie), Escamilla fully dedicated himself to the well-being of those he loved – both his family and the Ellis County community.” – Judge Todd Little Even until his last moments with us, Chief Escamilla stood ready to serve those who counted on and looked up to him. We send our condolences to his family and friends, as well as to the community of Waxahachie, for their loss of one of Ellis County’s finest servant-leaders. The loss of Jake Escamilla leaves a void within our hearts, but let us also remember the way he brought us together and encouraged the best in everyone. Rest in peace, Chief Escamilla!

  • In Ellis County, we plan for the future. What better way is there to prepare for the future than to encourage our next generation to learn as much as they can about new subjects? Judge Little would like to thank Waxahachie ISD for the opportunity to engage with young minds during today’s “Drop Everything and Read” (D.E.A.R.) event at Wilemon STEAM Academy. He enjoyed explaining the Constitution and our government to students, who were eager to learn what citizens can do to shape our nation’s future. #dropeverythingandread
