🏀 As a lifelong Cleveland Cavaliers fan (and solid basketball player, though I never quite lived up to my dad’s WNBA expectations 😂), recording this episode of ERC's What's Up at Work podcast was a really big deal for me. Even more than that, it meant a lot because it gets into something that’s not always easy to talk about: diversity, equity, and inclusion. Kevin Clayton, the Chief Impact & Equity Officer at Rock Entertainment Group and the Cavs, acknowledges that politics and headlines are part of this conversation right now, but he doesn’t make them the focus. Instead, he channels his energy into leveraging diversity as a driver of people, purpose, performance…and even revenue. It’s genuinely brilliant. Beyond all that, this conversation confirmed one more VERY important thing: Donovan Mitchell really is as cool in real life as he seems on the court. 🙌🏻 ♥️ 45 (It’s the little things, folks.) 🎧 Episode is out now! Remember your first “real” job? 🙋♀️ - Accidentally hit “reply all”? - Unsure what ‘circling back’ actually meant? - Wore the wrong thing on day one? Starting out as a new professional isn’t easy, but with the right tools and training, it doesn’t have to be hard either. As leaders, it’s our job to make that transition smoother. “Diversity can't drive revenue.” At least that's what most leaders think. Just wait until you hear the Cleveland Cavaliers' approach... On this week’s What’s Up at Work?, Kevin Clayton (EVP & Chief Impact & Equity Officer) shares with Sam Clyde Schroeder how the Cavs look at Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: ✅ Fix systems, not people. Feedback, hiring, promotion, and compensation design either enable inclusion or quietly block it. ✅ Tie impact to the business. Yes, there’s a scorecard. Yes, revenue targets apply. ✅ Design for community, not campaigns. Theme nights + supplier diversity + authentic player passions → higher merch sales and dollars back to local orgs. ✅ Build leaders on purpose. The IDEAL Team (a 34-person cross-functional council) became a leadership pipeline—two-thirds of top execs have served.
