The Dean formation, located in the Midland Basin between the Spraberry and Wolfcamp formations, has been increasing in popularity. To find out why, BTU Analytics utilized the FactSet Oil & Gas Wells, Activity, and Production Data Feed, which allows users to access monthly production data for all oil- and natural gas-producing wells in the U.S. and Canada. The map below highlights wells that have drilled into or through either the Spraberry or Dean formations, and while these wells are not specifically producing from the Dean formation, it is clear that the Dean is comparable in size to the Spraberry. However, when breaking down barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per lateral foot for several Texas formations, BTU Analytics found that wells drilled in the Dean formation show remarkable production compared to the those of the Bone Springs, Wolfcamp, and Spraberry formations. So, with a size comparable to the Spraberry and attractive well performance, it’s no wonder why operators are beginning to take notice. Way back in February, my colleague Sean Murray and I sat down with FTF at their Performance Measurement & Client Reporting conference to discuss trends we're seeing across our book, common challenges that clients are solutioning for, and, yes, GenAI. I'm happy to report that the content is still valid, which can't be taken for granted given the speed of development! Where are you aligned with Sean and I? Are there areas you'd push back on or prioritize differently? Discuss! https://lnkd.in/eX84B2RR #investmentperformance #investmentreporting #assetmanagement #genAI

The office of the CFO is not always known for being the “boldest”, but with the adoption of AI is that changing? Great discussion last week alongside Noémie Heuland of Moody's Corporation, Helen Shan of FactSet, and HSBC’s Andrew Fullam on the ways AI is helping CFOs find efficiencies and gain better insights to help drive company performance. There’s a lot of optimism that the right technology can help CFOs transition from scorekeepers reporting on past performance to nimble decisionmakers focused on the future. Congrats to my colleagues at HSBC Innovation Banking for another successful #HSBCInnovationDay! #FutureofFinance

The hype of an expanding shale play continues to pump life into the Haynesville’s western reaches, with both public and private operators allocating significant capital to develop the acreage. Comstock reported 2024 western Haynesville well costs of $3,400/ft, compared to the $1,500/ft basin average for legacy Haynesville wells. Also, western Haynesville drill costs average $26.3MM, almost double the $14.3MM for legacy drills, due to greater depths. Despite this, breakeven gas prices are similar for both regions at $2.65/MMBtu for western Haynesville and $2.69/MMBtu for legacy Haynesville, largely thanks to the western Haynesville’s wells being superior to legacy Haynesville wells in size, initial production, and EURs. Using the FactSet Oil & Gas Well Economics Data Feed and Workstation Report, BTU Analytics models western Haynesville wells taking four months longer for direct payout and five months longer on a discounted basis than legacy wells, affecting capital reallocation timing. For operators ready to invest and extend breakeven timelines, the western Haynesville could prove valuable given its tier-1 acreage status.
