Transportation Solutions That Improve Communities

About us

We are a transportation planning and engineering firm with 24 offices and over 400 staff nationwide. Since 1985, we’ve partnered with public and private clients to design safer, more effective ways for people and goods to move—creating spaces where everyone can thrive, today and for generations to come. Bringing together data, technology, and the lived experiences of the communities we serve, we help clients make confident, well-informed decisions. Along the way, we’ve earned national recognition for raising the bar on how transportation projects are planned, designed, and delivered. Many of our first clients still trust us with their transportation needs after decades of collaboration—a testament to the strong partnerships we build and the innovative mindset we bring to every project. Through these long-standing community relationships and ongoing investments in research and development, we continue to influence the future of transportation while mentoring the next generation of industry leaders. Our mission is to empower every employee to develop effective and innovative transportation solutions that improve communities. We ensure that every decision supports this mission by encouraging creativity, accountability, and collaboration. We are an equal opportunity employer and strive to create an inclusive culture that embraces fresh ideas. Whether you’re looking to collaborate or join our team, we’d love to connect. • Vision Zero is entering its second decade, and the conversation about safety is evolving. For decades, transportation safety has relied on the four "E"s: engineering, education, enforcement, and emergency services. These efforts matter, but they often work in silos and react to crashes after they happen. A new article (authored by Meghan Mitman, AICP, RSP2I, Terence Zhao, AICP, and Adrian B. Engel, PE, CASp) in Transportation Research Record introduces a framework that instead puts forward the "W"s of safety. Who is traveling? What modes are they using? When are they traveling? Where are they going? Why were they in this location? And what factors influenced the design and options of their travel network? These questions may seem simple. But by shifting the focus to systemic, upstream issues—like transit reliability and efficiency, affordable housing and mixed-use zoning, parking requirements, level of service requirements, and emergency response considerations—we can shape roadway safety long before a crash occurs. We just wrapped up two energizing days with our entire firm—400 teammates from across the country, all together in person. Every few years, we pause for a rare and meaningful retreat, and this year it aligned with another milestone: celebrating 40 years of Fehr & Peers. We spent time reflecting on where we've been and where we're headed, diving into conversations on our work, how technology has and will continue to shape it, and our culture. The ideas sparked and the connections made left us inspired about how we can better serve clients, communities, and each other. Huge thanks to all attendees, our event PICs Eric Womeldorff and Meghan Mitman, AICP, RSP2I, and those responsible for planning and executing, for making this milestone year unforgettable.

Safer, more connected streets are what make places like Long Beach thrive. Happy (belated) #908Day to our Long Beach office, clients, and partners!

    View profile for Sean Reseigh

Associate at Fehr & Peers - GIS & Data Science

Last week I celebrated #908Day with my Fehr & Peers team with Long Beach-themed trivia, local eats, and by wearing our favorite Long Beach apparel (you know I had on my 100-year anniversary Joe Jost's shirt). As a 2nd generation Long Beach resident, I've either heard from other people or seen for myself how the City has evolved, expanded, and flourished. But one thing that has always remained consistent is the small-town feel, a feeling that so many others share, and one of the many reasons I truly love calling this place home. It's also been a privilege to work in and with the City. I remember being in my early teens riding my bike from Belmont Heights to the Peninsula for Junior Lifeguards along the newly installed Vista Street Bike Boulevard and feeling much safer and connected to my neighborhood. Fast forward 15+ years and I am so grateful to be at Fehr & Peers, supporting the City through proactive safety planning, bike and pedestrian facility design, and other meaningful community-focused work. Life is great in the 908! #908Day #LongBeach #LBC

Optony was thrilled to see that the City of Laguna Beach Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) was recently awarded 🏆 the American Planning Association's Resilience and Sustainability Award 🎉 in California for its comprehensive approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building community resilience to climate hazards. 🌎 Optony led energy resilience components of the CAAP and has continued to support the City on microgrid deployments. The first two of these microgrids are being contracted this year, with plans for multiple future microgrids across City facilities. Optony was honored to work alongside PlaceWorks, Fehr & Peers, Atlas Planning Solutions, Nexus Planning & Research | San Diego, and the Laguna Beach staff and community to achieve such a successful result for the City. The CAAP is a long-range plan laying out innovative strategies for policies and capital investments needed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, such as transitioning to renewable energy, improving building efficiency, and expanding sustainable transportation. Ever wondered what it's really like to be a pedestrian on Hamilton Avenue? Last week, we stopped guessing and started walking. Forward City Labs, with our incredible partners at Mithun, Fehr & Peers, and the City of Campbell, CA , hosted a community walk audit. We gathered two groups of engaged residents, business owners, and community members to experience the corridor together at peak evening commute hours. The insights were powerful. We saw firsthand how near-miss accidents and safety challenges often go unreported. We felt the impact of traffic congestion and identified barriers to accessibility. Monitored traffic behavior, which is hard to document. This collaborative process helps us build a shared understanding of the issues, creating a "level ground" for finding solutions. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made this a successful, eye-opening event. Missed this one? Don't worry, there will be more opportunities to get involved. Stay tuned!  👉 Sign up for project updates here - https://lnkd.in/gFEQHTaw #Urbanism #CommunityEngagement #Walkability #SafeStreets #HamiltonAvenuePlan #CityofCampbell
