These recognitions reinforce what we see every day: the future of audit is human judgment working alongside AI agents to expand capacity, improve efficiency, and improve quality, all in line with industry standards. Grateful to the firms and practitioners shaping this future with us. https://lnkd.in/ghTbN3rM

Should a founder be an insider or an outsider? This is an ongoing debate for investors in vertical AI. Insiders bring deep domain expertise and strong industry relationships, while outsiders bring a fresh perspective and fewer legacy assumptions. Jin from Fieldguide is a former auditor who built an AI platform for the CPA industry. While he’s clearly an insider, he believes the answer isn’t binary. What matters more is first-principles systems thinking: an obsession with the problem and a willingness to rethink workflows from the ground up. Jin is a great example of this. Rather than just doing audit work, he spent a lot of his time at the Big Four improving internal systems and processes. The most compelling founders pair genuine passion for the vertical and the problem with strong AI knowledge and systems thinking skills. That combination is the trifecta for a vertical AI founder. Shoutout to Troy from Andreessen Horowitz for the topic. More in the clip below.

We didn’t start Fieldguide to raise money. We started it to solve a problem we knew intimately–an industry stretched thin, asked to do more with less. Today we announced our $75M Series C, led by Goldman Sachs. It’s a milestone we’re proud of, but it isn't the whole story. The real story is that audit and advisory has hit a breaking point. Agentic AI is no longer experimental. It’s expected. And firms aren’t asking if they should modernize the work, they’re asking how fast they can. I had the opportunity to sit down with Leo Schwartz at Fortune to discuss this and what’s next for Fieldguide. Thanks to Leo for the great conversation, and to our customers and partners as we enter our next phase. https://lnkd.in/gZfy3rDA

VCs are obsessed with AI eating services spend. Although the gap between the $300B SaaS TAM and the $13T services TAM is hard to ignore. Jin resonated with this thesis, given the labor shortage in the CPA market. Audit is a services-heavy industry, and with fewer professionals available, AI is essential to unlocking 10x human capacity. Fieldguide tackles this by focusing on a firm’s offshore services spend. The platform reroutes junior, manual work from offshore teams to AI agents, delivering faster results at a higher quality. Rather than having CPA professionals wait to review these deliverables, they’re able to focus on what matters most: client relationships and higher-value work. This also allows junior and mid-level staff to progress faster, spending more time understanding why they’re doing the work. More in the clip below.

Most vertical AI companies start with a wedge product... Going head-to-head with legacy systems of record can be daunting. But that wasn’t the approach Fieldguide took in the audit world. Jin and Chris went the opposite direction, building the system of record first and then layering the system of action on top. By owning the context graph and developing deep contextual awareness for their AI field agents, they created a defensible long-term advantage. That’s why Jin believes every vertical AI company will ultimately need to own both the system of record and the system of action to build a durable business. More in the clip below.

Congratulations to Jin W. Chang Chang and the entire Fieldguide team on closing their $75M Series C led by Goldman Sachs! 🤝 The audit and advisory industry is facing an unprecedented capacity crisis - with CPA exam candidates at a 17-year low and 75% of today's CPAs expected to retire within the decade. This creates a staggering $25B+ gap in unmet demand that traditional approaches simply can't solve. Fieldguide is pioneering the solution: an AI-native platform where agentic AI works alongside human professionals to transform audit and advisory execution. Their approach doesn't replace human judgment, it amplifies it, allowing practitioners to focus on what they do best while AI handles high-volume, data-intensive work. The results speak volumes: • Trusted by 7 of the Top 10 CPA firms, including Big Four firms like KPMG • 40-75% efficiency improvements translating to 1.7x-4x capacity expansion • 163% Net Revenue Retention with customers seeing 20% YoY revenue growth What excites us most is how Fieldguide exemplifies our investment thesis - backing companies that use #AI to solve structural challenges in professional services. Their success validates that the future belongs to firms that embrace human-AI collaboration, not competition. We're proud to continue our partnership with Fieldguide as they scale this proven model globally. This is exactly the kind of transformative innovation that will define the next era of audit and advisory services. Congratulations again to Jin and the team! 🚀 CC: Tamara Steffens, Joseph Dormani, Jack Benedict, Josef Najm, Alexander Carvalho, Karen Lopez, Anushka Khetawat, Taneli Ruda, David Wong #AI #AuditTech #ProfessionalServices #VentureCapital #Innovation Bessemer Venture Partners 8VC Geodesic Capital

Excited to announce my and Geodesic Capital's partnership with Jin W. Chang and Fieldguide!! In Vertical AI, breakout companies tend to converge on a small number of durable control points: proprietary compounding data, system-of-record and system-of-action positioning, domain-tuned models, robust integrations, closed-loop workflows, and end-to-end automation. From my observation and our work, Fieldguide had assembled all six. The platform sits at the center of audit and advisory execution—not just storing engagement data, but orchestrating the work itself. With structured data from ~20,000 audits across 80 engagement types, Fieldguide’s agentic workflows are already delivering materially better-than-human performance while compressing weeks of work into days. What makes this compelling is not just AI assistance, but agentic execution. Fieldguide has moved beyond “CoPilot” into “CoWork,” where practitioners supervise and govern workflows rather than manually executing them—unlocking ~2x capacity for teams operating under real structural constraints. We believe audit and advisory will remain essential functions. As regulatory burden increases and labor supply contracts, platforms that combine deep data moats with system-level execution will define the future of the category. Fieldguide is building exactly that.
