Updates

  • Flower Mound’s Rheudasil Park is award winning! The Texas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) recently awarded the park a Merit Award for outstanding landscape architecture. Named after the Town’s first mayor, Bob Rheudasil, the park’s more than 10 acres of land was originally deeded to the Town in 1987. After closing in 2021 for a complete redesign, the park reopened in August 2022 with a new lighted boardwalk, playground area, basketball court, pavilion and restroom structure, enhanced landscaping, small fishing pier, trail, and sidewalk renovations.

  • Flower Mound is the #1 Most Livable Small City in Texas! That’s according to SmartAsset, an online personal finance company. Nationally, we ranked 7th on the list of 279 cities. To create the rankings, SmartAsset looked at several metrics for cities with a population between 65,000 and 100,000, including housing affordability, poverty and unemployment rates, health insurance coverage, access to entertainment facilities and healthcare, and commute times. You can learn more about SmartAsset’s methodology and read the full report at https://lnkd.in/gEQAneMA.

  • We’re officially in week two of National Parks and Recreation Month, and we have to give a shoutout to our amazing team! Our impressive Parks and Rec staff serves Flower Mound residents year round by creating and hosting fun and engaging programs, events, and classes; maintaining the Town’s parks and trail system; and much more behind the scenes. • We already knew he’s a rockstar, but it’s great to see others recognize it, too! At the annual Texas Association of Governmental Information Technology Managers (TAGITM) conference, our IT Director Jose Mendez was presented with the 2025 Rising Star Award. Voted on by his peers, the award was given to Jose (pictured here in the middle) for his exceptional leadership in driving modernization efforts that have enhanced efficiency, security, and strategic alignment for the Town of Flower Mound. Jose led the transition to a cloud-centric device management model using Microsoft Entra ID, Windows Autopilot, and Intune, reducing IT overhead and improving security. His key initiatives include implementing a Security Email Gateway, upgrading security policies with 16-character passwords, replacing end-of-life network switches, and reinforcing official communications by upgrading the Town’s domain to .GOV. He also played a crucial role in training staff, developing documentation, and addressing user concerns to ensure smooth transitions during major IT upgrades. His decisive leadership was evident during a critical infrastructure upgrade, where he resolved complex challenges and ensured the successful replacement of high-availability firewalls. Basically, for those of us who are not technologically savvy, Jose is awesome at managing high-pressure situations, fostering collaboration, and implementing strategic solutions! And we’re so lucky to benefit from his leadership every day here at the Town. Congrats, Jose!
