World Geothermal Day celebrates geothermal energy generated from Earth’s natural heat – a true force for a more sustainable future! 🌏 Producing geothermal energy is a fascinating process. Super-heated geothermal brine is recovered from reservoirs up to a mile or more below the surface. The brine rises through production wells into a geothermal power plant. The brine is flashed to create steam that spins a turbine to generate electricity. The cooled brine travels through an injection well, back down into the same reservoir where it is reheated and reused. At BHE Renewables, Environmental Respect is one of our Core Principles. Since 1982, our team has operated 10 geothermal plants in California’s Imperial Valley with a combined capacity of 345 megawatts. Students shine bright when classroom learning meets real-world challenges! 💡 BHE Renewables and the STEAM Technical Assistance Center (STEAM TAC), part of the West Virginia Public Education Collaborative and West Virginia University, kicked off the “Bright Ideas” classroom immersion where students at Ripley and Ravenswood Middle School had the opportunity to learn about renewable energy by building their own solar-powered circuits using Snap Circuit kits. The new hands-on program teaches students how solar energy works together with battery storage and introduces them to career paths in renewable energy. A few miles down the highway from Ravenswood Middle School, BHE Renewables is constructing a state-of-the-art solar microgrid, designed to meet 70% of Titanium Metals Corporation, Inc.'s (TIMET) anticipated energy needs annually to produce titanium products – bringing jobs and new opportunities to Jackson County, West Virginia. A total of 329 inverter skids were installed across our Solar Star and Topaz Solar Farms in California. Each 30,000-pound skid demanded precision, coordination and an unwavering commitment to safety.
