As global financial leaders gather in Washington, D.C. this week for the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, the need for reform has never been more urgent. This new Foreign Policy brief, as part of the Global Governance Reimagined series, takes a deep dive into how the international financial architecture, built decades ago, is failing to solve the world’s most pressing problems and is, in many ways, fueling inequality. This brief analyzes how international financial institutions can be reformed to address today's pressing challenges—from climate change to rising debt—and better serve global development needs. This is a critical conversation for anyone in development, policy, and global economics. Around the world, we make grants that support the visionary people and organizations who work to challenge inequality.
About us
The Ford Foundation is a global, grant-making philanthropy that works to disrupt inequality in all its forms. We believe in the inherent dignity of all people. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives. In addressing this reality, we are guided by a vision of social justice—a world in which all individuals, communities, and peoples work toward the protection and full expression of their human rights; are active participants in the decisions that affect them; share equitably in the knowledge, wealth, and resources of society; and are free to achieve their full potential. Across eight decades, our mission has been to reduce poverty and injustice, strengthen democratic values, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement. We work in 11 regional offices around the world and support programs in more than 50 countries.

We’re proud to support our partners at the Disability Economic Policy Research Consortium and its mission to break the link between disability and poverty – a crucial step in building an inclusive economy for all.
We were so excited to join our friends at the Roosevelt Institute to co-host the first annual Disability Economic Policy Research Symposium, in conjunction with the launch of the Disability Economic Policy Research Consortium this week! The Consortium brings together thought leaders from over 50 disability rights and justice organizations, economic policy think tanks, academic institutions, and grassroots advocacy groups with the shared mission of breaking the persistent link between disability and poverty and building an economy that finally works for disabled people. We are especially excited about the Consortium’s new Disability Econ Research Hub, a one stop shop for research at the intersection of disability and economic policy, many featuring corresponding plain language summaries. Visit the Research Hub here: https://lnkd.in/e4UbPFYx Big thanks to our friends at the Ford Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation, without whose support none of this work would be possible. As Rebecca Cokley shared: “We are thrilled to collaborate with our friends at the MacArthur Foundation on supporting the Disability Economic Policy Research Consortium—a groundbreaking partnership between the Roosevelt Institute and the National Academy of Social Insurance. Coming up with innovative and cross-systems approaches to disconnect disability and poverty will improve the lives of millions of disabled people and their families.” Learn more at disabilityecon.org. We’re excited for all that’s to come!
