The FSU Alumni Association mourns the passing of our friend and distinguished alumnus, President Emeritus John Thrasher (B.S. ’65, J.D. ’72), a steadfast leader and tireless advocate for Florida State University. During his presidency (2014–2021), FSU saw a rise to No. 18 among public universities, executed a $1.16 billion fundraising campaign and made strides in student success, research and academic excellence. FSU saw its four-year graduation rate rise to 74 percent, and the alumni network grew by more than 68,000 graduates. President Thrasher also helped establish the FSU College of Medicine and served as the university’s first Board of Trustees chair. A U.S. Army veteran and lifelong public servant, his life’s impact extended far beyond campus. He was inducted into the FSU Alumni Association’s Circle of Gold in 1999 for exemplifying the association’s core values of tradition, leadership, family, spirit and greatness. President Thrasher deeply valued the FSU alumni community and was a constant presence at alumni events, reunions and celebrations across the country. He championed lifelong engagement, often emphasizing the vital role alumni play in advancing the university’s mission. His legacy of service, leadership and love for the garnet and gold will forever inspire the Seminole family. Read more about President Thrasher’s life and legacy at gonol.es/johnthrasher.

“Florida State has always been a part of my life, especially with my mom being an FSU alumna. Ever since I was admitted, she talked about how special it would be to have bricks at Westcott one day. So, when graduation came around, I was beyond excited to not only receive my own brick but to surprise my mom with one as well. She had no idea, and seeing her reaction was one of the most meaningful moments of my life. It was the perfect way to celebrate both graduation and everything she’s done for me. We’re already looking forward to adding a brick for my sister next year!” –Kaylee Andrews (B.S. ’25) Each brick at Westcott Plaza reflects the unforgettable memories, proud milestones and special relationships formed at Florida State University. Celebrate your FSU journey or honor someone special with a brick at this cherished campus landmark. Now through June 19, save $100 when you purchase a personalized brick and leave a lasting mark on campus. Your story belongs at Westcott. Secure your brick today at gonol.es/storyinbrick.
