What if classrooms could prepare students for the workforce the way architecture school prepares its students? In architecture school, we learn through trial, collaboration, and tackling open-ended challenges. These challenges build the skills World Economic Forum identifies as essential for tomorrow’s jobs: creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration. At GFF, we design learning environments that embrace this model. From makerspaces St. Mark's School of Texas and The Hockaday School to project-based learning spaces Fort Worth Academy, our goal is to cultivate the curiosity, resilience, and interdisciplinary thinking which students will need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. To dive deeper into this perspective, read the full article from GFF’s Principal, Jon Rollins, in Columns on AIA Dallas: https://lnkd.in/gM6rccZE #EducationDesign #FutureReady #ProjectBasedLearning #Makerspaces #Collaboration #Architecture #GFFDesign

GFF is honored to be recognized with the 2024 The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Faith & Form Award for Religious Architecture & Art from Partners for Sacred Places for our work on St. Andrew Methodist Church Hasley Chapel in Plano, Texas. The chapel was envisioned not as an extension of the church’s existing Georgian-style campus, but as a distinct and contemplative retreat nestled into the site’s natural features. Set gently along a winding creek, it invites worshippers into quiet dialogue with nature. From the beginning, our goal was to create a sacred space that feels grounded yet transcendent—a place that is warm, approachable, and deeply connected to the landscape. The design uses simple, honest materials: locally sourced stone, exposed timber, and expansive glass. These elements work together to frame light, capture views of the pond, creek and trees, and dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. The chapel encourages people to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel the presence of something greater—whether in the stillness of the space or the movement of water just beyond the glass. We’re proud to highlight our Summer & Fall 2025 interns who have brought fresh perspectives and meaningful contributions to our studios. Matthew James Shirley joined the Planning Studio as he completes his BA in Architecture at Columbia, graduating this December. Allison Brooks and Cole Salisbury, both entering their fifth year in KU’s M.Arch program, connected with us through the KU career fair. Both are based in our Dallas office, with Allison contributing to the Pontious team and Cole working with the Civic Studio. Returning for his third summer, Derek Maynard is interning in our Fort Worth office while pursuing his graduate studies at UTA. We’re grateful for the energy they’ve brought to our teams and excited to see what the future holds for each of them.
