Bold. Grand. Inspired.
About us
Grand St. Settlement connects New Yorkers with opportunities that inspire, services that keep families strong and programs that bring communities closer. We've been inviting New Yorkers to join us in building the communities we need for a century; when we opened our doors in 1916 we served the Lower East Side, but today we connect more than 17,500 New Yorkers throughout the Lower East Side, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Our Community Centers, partner schools and Child & Family Centers are vibrant and safe, creating a home away from home that reflects the cultures and wisdom of the communities' experiences.

¡A bailar! This #ImpactFriday, our sites have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with an artistic flair. Concerts in Motion brought our Baruch Elder Services Team NORC community together with lively salsa music as participants (and even some of our busy staff!) took to the dance floor. Over at Lyons Community School, students hosted a special Sip & Paint event where they celebrated different Hispanic cultures through art and music. Students enjoyed refreshing drinks (non-alcoholic, of course) while listening to Spanish music, painting, and learning about the lives and cultural contributions of famous Hispanic artists. ¡Nos vemos el próximo #ImpactFriday!

This #ImpactFriday, we're shouting out those who have made the biggest impact at Grand Street: our incredible staff. The Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo hosted this year's Staff Development and Appreciation Day! Our team gathered in The Bronx to learn about our organization's priorities and celebrate all we've accomplished. Thank you to Board President Bryan Koplin for your kind words, and Board Member Mario Tufano, CFA®, CFP® for an engaging presentation to our team. We're grateful to Bronx Borough President Hon. Vanessa L. Gibson, MPA (She, Her, Hers, Ella) for a rousing "Welcome to The Bronx" and to our banking partners Amalgamated Bank and Spring Bank NY for sharing financial wellness opportunities with our team. The programs and services our dedicated staff provide are relied on by thousands of families in the Lower East Side, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. We're proud of all they do and always want to show our appreciation. See you next #ImpactFriday!

Thank you to BTQ Financial for ten years of partnership. We're grateful for the strides we've made together, strengthening our financial position and allowing our programs to grow and serve over 18,000 New Yorkers across three boroughs. A special thank you to Naima Chisolm and Sisil John for sharing your wisdom and expertise as our client managers and de facto Chief Financial Officers. Watch this video to learn more about our partnership. Looking forward to the next ten years and beyond!
Ten years ago, Grand Street Settlement was at a financial crossroads. Receivables were delayed, reporting was inconsistent, and sustainability was at risk. “We really needed to resolve the financial situation. There was no way that we were going to be able to be sustainable, much less grow.” - Robert Cordero, Grand Street Settlement’s CEO The turning point came when Grand Street partnered with BTQ for specialized nonprofit financial support. BTQ’s approach was not just about numbers; it was about understanding the organization’s mission and becoming a true partner. Over the next decade, Grand Street’s budget grew from $20 million to nearly $65 million. More resources meant new locations, expanded programs, and greater community impact. This story proves what’s possible when nonprofits pair mission-driven leadership with the right financial partnership.
