🏛️In the last week of the New York State legislative session, the Senate and Assembly passed S8432/A8662-A. As of Oct. 22, 2025, this legislation has not been sent to the governor for her signature. Assuming Gov. Hochul signs the legislation into law, it would change New York’s current alignment with the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), thereby modifying the New York specific reporting requirements. 📝Learn more in the latest #GTAlert by Elizabeth Colombo Garvey and Cathryn O. 🎙️ In this GeTtin’ SALTy episode, Nikki E. Dobay hosts Shail Shah (Greenberg Traurig) and Joe Bishop-Henchman (National Taxpayers Union Foundation) to break down the latest developments in NTU’s case, challenging the constitutionality of California’s 2024 budget changes. 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/g_DAS3mS. NTU’s legal challenge focuses on SB 167 and the creation of Section 25128.9, a statute that redefined “receipts” for purposes of California’s apportionment calculation that applies retroactively on an unlimited basis. 🗣️ The guests discuss why NTU brought this constitutional challenge and then delve into the court’s surprising ruling, granting the Franchise Tax Board’s Motion for Summary Judgment on procedural grounds. 🗣️ The three also discuss the court’s basis for the ruling, citing Section 32 of the California Constitution and the apparent rejection of associational standing in California tax cases. 🗣️ Finally, the episode closes with a lighthearted question about which historical event they’d time travel to. Tune in for analysis on California tax law and what’s next for taxpayer advocacy! #GTPodcasts #GettinSalty #Tax #TaxLaw #CaliforniaTaxLaw

⚠️In September, Department of Defense (DoD) finalized the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Program, along with the accompanying contract clauses (https://bit.ly/3Ve3TU6), with an effective date of Nov. 10, 2025. As Eleanor (Elle) Ross, Cassidy Kim, and Olivia Bellini discussed in previous GT Alerts (https://bit.ly/4o4izC9), defense contractors will be expected to conduct self-assessments or third party assessments in accordance with requirements in NIST SP 800-171 and NIST SP 800-172. A key element of those assessments will be the SSP, which is a required document under NIST SP 800-171 rev. 2, control 3.12.4, and is one of the first review items in a Level 2 pre-assessment. Critically, recent reports from third-party assessors estimate (https://bit.ly/4ovMfrt) that 25% of the companies seeking certification have experienced false starts due to a failed pre-assessment, meaning they were unable to validate the contractors’ readiness to advance to the actual assessment. 📖 Read more in this #GTAlert, which covers what constitutes an SSP and how contractors might meet this threshold requirement for CMMC compliance: https://bit.ly/4ngrW08 #GovernmentContracts #GovCon #CMMC
