Pregnant immigrant women in Minnesota and across the US are facing a dire and inhumane choice: seek prenatal care while risking arrest and detainment, or go without critical services. No one should live in fear or face violence in order to access essential care. https://gu.tt/3ZRBSE3 #ImmigrantHealth #ReproductiveRights

We're proud that our Senior Research Scientist Alice Cartwright received an honorable mention for the Gibbs Leadership Prize for her 2025 study on the impact of Medicaid expansion on contraceptive use in marginalized communities. Learn more about the study and other honorees from Women's Health Issues ⬇️
Alice Cartwright, Anna Fiastro, Carolyn Gibson, and Samuel H. Nyarko, Ph.D. have received honorable mentions for the Gibbs Leadership Prize. Their 2025 studies addressed the impacts of Medicaid expansion on contraceptive use in neighborhoods of racialized socioeconomic deprivation, demand for telehealth medication abortion after Dobbs in states where abortion remained legal, military exposures and early menopause among Gulf War veterans, and whether the rise in severe maternal morbidity is explained by the changing age distribution of those giving birth. Congratulations to these authors! https://lnkd.in/ea8zg8Dq

As other donors retreat, Canada’s sustained investment in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) has played a critical stabilizing role in global health funding. Our analysis with the Future Planning Initiative shows how Canada’s rights-based, multi-year funding for family planning and #SRH saves lives and expands opportunities. But proposed cuts to development assistance threaten this progress at a moment when the need for global leadership is urgent. Now more than ever, sustained investment in SRH must be protected. See our full analysis examining the impact of Canada’s aid investments and the implications of scaling them back: https://gu.tt/3ZRRiYR Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, Cooperation Canada, Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH), Global Canada, Inter Pares, Oxfam Canada #GlobalHealth #FamilyPlanning

Mifepristone is safe, effective, and essential. And despite increasing false claims from anti-abortion lawmakers and activists, it does not impact US waterways or drinking water. It’s critical to see environmental attacks on mife for what they are: an effort to surveil, restrict and ultimately ban abortion care completely. We're thrilled to have a report by Guttmacher experts Isaac Maddow-Zimet and Kimya Forouzan, MPH, Esq. featured on Society of Family Planning's list of Most-Talked-About Family Planning Publications. The report examines data from our Monthly Abortion Provision Study and shows that the total number of abortions in states without total bans remained relatively stable between 2023 and 2024, despite increased obstacles to care. Congratulations to all of the authors on the list!

At a moment when evidence is being sidelined in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) policy, continuing to advance rigorous, person-centered research matters. Our latest global research roundup highlights: - How misinformation, incomplete information and social norms restrict access to pregnancy termination in a humanitarian setting - How we can change the way we measure contraceptive need to better reflect what people want, and in turn shape policy and target limited resources - A call for continued improvement on person-centered research indicators, and transitional measures we can be using today - What new research reveals about pharmacy and drugstore-based medication abortion in Ethiopia Together, these findings reinforce the importance of sustained investment and evidence-driven, person-centered policy in advancing equitable #SRH worldwide. We joined Detention Watch Network and more than 1000 organizations to express our horror, outrage and deep grief about the violence perpetrated by federal agents on the streets of Minneapolis. Congress must fulfill its responsibilities and stop these out-of-control agencies from continuing to violently attack our immigrant communities and communities of color, as well as their many allies and supporters. We call on Congress to immediately halt funding for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and to revoke the tens of billions already given through last summer’s reconciliation bill.
