The last few months have been filled to the brim with exciting #OandP events across the country. Here's a few highlights from our #HangerClinic team! – Team Hanger Clinic Patient Champions Yvonne Llanes and Cameron Lutges, along with Molly Lintz embraced adventure and connection at Camp No Limits Texas. Through canoeing, archery, life skills sessions, and team-building activities, they bonded with campers, creating unforgettable memories while demonstrating resilience, camaraderie, and determination. – The Fort Lauderdale, FL team presented its "Get Unstuck: Spring Into Your Next Step” event, where nearly 100 attendees enjoyed adaptive activities like yoga, cycling, running, fall prevention, and other fun activities. Guests were also connected with local resources to support rehabilitation and wellness. Thanks to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, Strive Recreational Therapy, and Broward County Government Parks and Recreation who contributed to the event. – Hanger Clinic was proudly represented at The Limb Preservation Foundation Annual Limb Symposium in Denver, CO by Patient Champion Lera Doederlein and business development manager Seth Lytle. Lera took center stage as a panelist at the symposium and was featured on the AMP’D UP 211 podcast, discussing life hacks and advice for navigating limb difference. – Our team members in North Carolina joined forces with ASAP Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program and OrthoCarolina to host an adaptive field day which included archery, pickleball, weightlifting, cornhole, and more. Dozens of participants enjoyed the opportunity to meet with peers and improve their mobility alongside clinical experts. Thanks to all who helped make these events a success!

Last week, members of the #OandP community gathered at Hanger Clinic's new Integrated Care Center in Schaumburg, IL, for an inspiring Upper Limb Prosthetic Symposium. Led by upper extremity specialist Tim Russo and clinical therapy specialist Amy Todd, the comprehensive Hanger Clinic University session explored topical insights surrounding rehabilitation principles and evidence-based care, leaving attendees with important takeaways that will help enhance patient outcomes. Thirty-one-year-old Nick Madden was paralyzed from the mid-torso down after suffering a spinal cord injury while dirt biking in 2022. Nick’s sister Angelina Madden, CP, who was completing her master’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics at the time, immediately recognized what the severe injuries would mean for Nick’s mobility. While he spent time adjusting to his manual wheelchair, Nick shared his goal of one day walking again. Now a resident clinician at the Sacramento, CA #HangerClinic, Angelina felt inspired by her peers to help Nick achieve his goals, saying “I was lucky to secure my residency at a place where the clinicians and technicians were so motivated to help me make Nick’s dream a reality.” Together with her team (including clinicians Jason Wong, Matthew Roberts, and Shannon O'Shea), Angelina fit Nick with a reciprocating gait orthosis (RGO), which helps him stand and walk upright. Now, Nick is primarily using his #RGO as a rehabilitation tool, helping to build his cardiovascular health and bone density so he can enjoy a more active life and hobbies like adaptive kayaking and handcycling. His next goal is to use his RGO to walk independently at upcoming social events. And with his sister (and his Hanger Clinic team!) as his number one supporters, he’s working hard to chase even bigger dreams. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Nick, and grateful to his team for their ongoing support and care. #EmpoweredCareers

The #HangerFoundation is now accepting Empowerment Grant applications for 2026! This is an incredible opportunity for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations to receive funding for impactful programs that serve the O&P community. Applicants should be focused on one of the following areas: - Rehabilitation and support services for related illnesses or trauma (e.g., stroke, sports injuries) - Athletic programs, social activities and events for individuals with physical challenges, with a special emphasis on individuals with limb loss or limb difference - Services and programs that support our veterans The deadline for applications is June 9 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Cooper is a talented baseball player entering his senior year at Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, KY. Born with fibular hemimelia (a condition that leaves the fibula bone underdeveloped) in his right leg, Cooper has been through 17 surgeries to improve his mobility and reduce pain. While he has used ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) in the past, Cooper needed a brace that would help him continue playing baseball at an elite level. He was referred to clinician Michael L. McCauley MS, CPO/L at the Louisville #HangerClinic (who also happens to be an alumnus of Saint Xavier High School!). Michael fit Cooper with a carbon-fiber AFO with custom modifications to accommodate his limb difference and enhance his playing abilities. Cooper is now thriving on and off the field—even pitching a perfect game at the end of last season, helping his team win 20-0! He recently signed to play baseball at Spalding University, and hopes to one day be highlighted on ESPN's #SportsCenter. Yesterday, Hanger and Ottobock joined forces to advocate for better access to #OandP care in Texas! More than 100 team members, along with members of the limb loss community, met with state representatives and senators to bring awareness to two very important bills: – SB 1466/HB 5544 addresses the lack of Medicaid coverage in Texas for people over the age of 20 needing O&P devices (Texas is the only state without Medicaid prosthetic coverage). – HB 426 focuses on providing Medicaid coverage for infants needing cranial remolding orthoses (CROs), ensuring timely access to CROs without financial barriers and improving patient outcomes.
