Back from the Advancement Exchange for Independent Schools 2025 Conference in Newport Beach and feeling connected, seen, heard, and inspired! It was a gift to connect with fellow advancement and development professionals like Christine Maguire Colleen Carter Lisa Coates and many others! The closing keynote from Hali Lee left me feeling very hopeful - philanthropy is dominated by top-down, individualistic approaches, and her call to re-center community and collective giving was a powerful reminder of what real change can look like. Thanks to the amazing BusinessImprov crew who gave the conference a uniquely SoCal vibe, and everyone who showed up with open minds and generous hearts. Big thanks to Nancy Kehoe, the entire AeXIS team, everyone at the picturesque Harbor Day School for hosting us - Head of School Angi Evans, Director of Development Olivia Baumgartner (Lundberg-Carr) and most importantly, the chefs!!. On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee and the Board of Trustees, we are excited to announce the appointment of Joseph “Joe” Powers as Harbor Day’s next Head of School, effective July 1, 2026. Joe was unanimously recommended by the Search Committee and received a unanimous vote from the Board of Trustees. Joe currently serves as Executive Director at Waterside School in Stamford, CT, bringing over 15 years of experience as a Head of School. A visionary and dedicated educator, Joe is known for honoring the joy of childhood while fostering character, academic excellence, and perseverance. His values are deeply aligned with Harbor Day’s mission. Reflecting on his new role, Joe shared: “My ‘why’ has always been simple: I believe deeply in the power and potential of children—and in our responsibility as educators to prepare them to lead with purpose in the years ahead. Harbor Day embodies this belief in its mission and its motto, Gradatim ad Summum.” Please join us in welcoming Joe to the Harbor Day community and in expressing heartfelt gratitude to Angi Evans as she completes her final year as Head of School.
