The limelight is on our physical therapists for #NationalPhysicalTherapyMonth! Autumn shares: "I initially became a PT because I knew I wanted a career in healthcare. I was injured in college, running in track and field, and I spent a lot of time in the training room with the PTs and the athletic trainers. I was fascinated with the sports medicine setting. I love movement and I think it's cool that you can use it as a tool to help people get better. Prior to becoming a PT I didn't realize how important movement can be to the healing process. I enjoy being a PT because every day I get to see people work through injuries and learn how to get better. Seeing people learn that with consistency, change is really possible - this is a perk to my job. It's really great knowing that all the various areas the physical therapists treat can really help people progress with their pain and their function. From things like learning how to walk again, recovering from accidents, and preventing falls, PTs really make a difference in people's lives. I love watching how people function and teaching them how to use their own body to minimize their pain and return to the things they love to do." We are grateful to Autumn and her team and colleagues! What a gift to have a champion help improve movement and mobility for people at every age and ability!

Ericka Zavada, RT (R) – Education Coordinator & Multi-Specialty Technologist, Radiology “Our field can have people just starting their careers at 18 years old, or in their 40s, exploring a second career. I get to learn from new employees and students. A lot of those students go on to work here after they graduate, which is an accomplishment. I think we’ve made the radiology team a welcoming place to learn and grow. I really enjoy chatting with students from the Talent Garden events who are excited about pursuing a career in radiology. It’s so important that we bring in students either for the Talent Garden, internships, or job shadowing to get an idea of what the job is like. Interacting with people from all walks of life, whether a student, colleague, or patient, has taught me so much about humanity and compassion.” Hennepin Healthcare Foundation is proud to highlight authentic stories from the wide variety of human beings who connect with our mission.
