Yesterday, Hillside’s Voices United committee proudly presented Gail Lewin with the Tyrone Robinson Humanitarian Award, honoring her years of service, compassion, and unwavering love for Hillside. For nearly 17 years, Gail has poured her heart into making Hillside a better place for our kids, their families, and our team. Since 2020 alone, through her events, relationships, and advocacy, she has helped raise more than $500,000 to support Hillside’s mission. But her impact goes far beyond numbers... 💙 When our kids needed water bottles, she found hundreds. 💙 When families needed Thanksgiving support, she found donors to buy turkeys. 💙 When rooms around campus needed a refresh, she organized contractors to paint, furnish, and beautify spaces across Hillside, including the greenhouse, the gym, the training room, the DBT store, and the dining hall. Gail does not just fundraise. She shows up. She bakes with the kids, leads our annual Angel Tree campaign, and sells raffle tickets like it is an Olympic sport. Every dollar she helps raise means more care, more comfort, and more opportunities for Hillside clients. Gail, thank you for serving Hillside's mission with generosity, spirit, and passion. We love you!

  • Registered nurses at the Atlanta VA Medical Center are rallying against proposed staffing cuts that would significantly reduce mental health services for high-risk and homeless veterans. Nurses warn that the cuts could increase hospitalizations and suicide risk among veterans who rely on the VA’s Mental Health Intensive Case Management and HUD-VASH programs for ongoing care and housing support. Their message is clear—veterans deserve more resources, not fewer, to safeguard their mental health and recovery. As a nonprofit mental health service provider, Hillside stands with those advocating for access to quality mental health care for all, especially our nation’s veterans. Read more here:

  • Atlanta Public Schools is expanding access to mental health resources by encouraging students to use Talk It Out, a confidential text line that connects middle and high school students with licensed counselors 24/7. The initiative, supported by the APS Student Advisory Council, helps students manage stress, anxiety, and sadness before challenges escalate, offering a safe first step toward professional support. Hillside applauds APS for prioritizing student well-being and making mental health support accessible in meaningful ways! Read more here:

October is #communitycare month at LandCare LLC. This month, we reflect on our commitment to service and the impact we can make, particularly thinking of Hillside, Inc. Their need was for a path connecting multiple locations over challenging - disconnected terrain. Andre Theriot developed an effective plan that incorporated proper drainage, existing aesthetics, and functional materials. The team executed the plan successfully. A massive shout out to Marc Teitelman and Heritage Landscape Supply Group, Inc. for generously donating 100% of the hard materials needed for this project.

  • Hillside was honored to join the Boys & Girls Club as a featured community presenter during Atlanta Way Day 2025. Selected by a panel of judges, our session highlighted the Connecting Communities program and its focus on collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. The day underscored urgent challenges around economic mobility in Atlanta and lifted up key takeaways: • Systems-level change requires data, strategy, and policy working in tandem. • Bold investments in housing, education, and transit can transform outcomes. • True progress depends on cross-sector leadership, collaboration, and a willingness to address root causes. Atlanta Way Day sparked an honest dialogue about where we go next. Hillside is proud to be part of this momentum of building connections that move our region forward!
