This law will open more affordable places to camp, support farmers & ranchers and boost rural economies. This week in Washington, D.C., the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) convened innovators, policymakers, and industry leaders for the first-ever Technology & Innovation Summit. Big win for California campers: AB 518 has passed the Legislature! ⛺️ ✨ This bill makes it easier to create new, affordable camping opportunities across the state, addressing the growing demand for outdoor access. With support from farmers, outdoor advocates, local governments, and industry leaders, AB 518 represents a powerful coalition working to ensure nature is accessible to everyone. Now we urge Governor Gavin Newsom to sign AB 518 into law so more Californians can enjoy time outside. A huge thank you to our Government and Community Affairs team, Michal Rosenoer and Cassandra Prenn-Vasilakis for their incredible work on this bill spanning many years.

They say time flies when you’re having fun. Our community of Hipcamp Hosts has grown over the years, and we now have Hosts celebrating significant milestones. Pictured here are Sarah A J. and Robert Cass from Jacaranda Hill Farm, who began by sharing their ‘weekender escape’ and through Hosting with Hipcamp, have been able to move out of the city, live on their land full-time, and welcome thousands of campers over the years. They’re also big advocates for mental health awareness. I spoke to them when they first joined and optimised their listing and chatted about what lies ahead. Stories like this warm my heart. Congratulations on 10 years!

Hipcamp’s Australian Government & Community Affairs Manager, Mitchell Coveney, recently attended the launch of the New South Wales Visitor Economy Strategy, led by Tourism Minister Steve Kamper. We welcome the Strategy’s recognition of agritourism and nature-based tourism as key drivers of future growth. These priorities align closely with Hipcamp’s mission to support landholders in diversifying income, activating land, and strengthening regional economies through sustainable nature-based tourism. Hipcamp looks forward to engaging with government, industry, and community partners to ensure that farmers and regional communities are well-positioned to benefit from the opportunities outlined in the Strategy as we work towards 2035.
