Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management @ Summit Technology Academy

Our Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management students had an exciting industry immersion experience at Worlds of Fun! Students rotated through sessions with leaders in safety and security, creative services, ride engineering, digital media, and costuming — gaining insight into the diverse careers that make the park operate successfully. They also experienced the park firsthand by sampling lunch from the food & beverage department and enjoying a few rides along the way. A few of us got some firsthand experience with costumes and make up 😊 A fantastic day of learning and engagement in the attractions industry!

Our Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Management students visited Chick-fil-A and heard from two directors about what makes their brand so successful! From hiring and training to food safety, pricing, and profitability — students learned how Chick-fil-A creates one of the most efficient operations and best guest experiences in the industry.

Another great day of real-world learning! Our hospitality students toured John Knox Village, where we met with the dining and events manager and a recruiter to learn what makes this property such a unique venue. Students explored the beautiful grounds and on-site restaurants while discovering the wide range of career opportunities available in the industry!

Last Friday we attended an FCCLA Industry Immersion event at Silver Dollar City! We heard from a local member of the Hotel and Lodging Association about the incredible economic impact of our industry, then spent the day exploring the park’s shows, rides, and retail. It’s amazing how much you can learn when you immerse yourself in a different world!

💜 Exploring the Future at K-State! 🐾 Our Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management students spent the day at Kansas State University, getting a first-hand look at what their futures could hold! They toured the Health and Human Services building, heard from hospitality management students, academic advisors, and department leaders, and even enjoyed lunch at Lacy’s, the student-run café. 🍴✨ A highlight of the day was visiting with a former STA student who is now thriving in the K-State Hospitality Management program — such an inspiring example for our current students as they look ahead! 🌟

Our Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management students partnered with a local business professional who owns and manages Airbnb properties! Students were challenged to update the spaces to enhance the guest experience while considering the impact on key operational areas — housekeeping, safety & security, engineering, and more. This hands-on project allowed students to be creative, apply what they’re learning in class, and see firsthand how design choices affect day-to-day operations in the industry.

Our Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management students had an amazing visit to the KC Marriott Downtown. They met with HR and the hotel manager, toured this incredible convention property, and got a behind-the-scenes look at how all the departments work together to keep operations running smoothly — and guests safe — in such a large-scale setting. These real-world experiences help our students see just how many career opportunities exist in the hospitality industry. Big thanks to the KC Marriott Downtown team for sharing their time and expertise! 🙌

Our Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation Management students had the opportunity to tour Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center, gaining valuable insights from the conference and sales managers. They explored guest rooms, toured the meeting and event spaces, and learned how teamwork across departments supports a seamless guest experience. We’re grateful to industry partners like Stoney Creek for opening their doors and helping our students connect classroom learning with real-world hospitality operations.

Our Hospitality & Tourism students had the privilege of hearing from our first guest speaker of the year – a professor from K-State Olathe! 🎓 Students gained valuable insight into: ✅ Resume design best practices ✅ How to highlight key experiences ✅ Customizing resumes for future job opportunities Experiences like this not only strengthen students’ professional skills but also prepare them to confidently take their next steps in the hospitality industry. 🌟
