Y’all, I just had my first baby (!!). I’ve been eating a lot of seaweed — not just because I run a seaweed snack company. In Korean culture, moms drink seaweed soup (miyeokguk) after birth, inspired by the legend of whales eating seaweed after birth to heal and restore. It’s so central to us that we even eat seaweed soup on birthdays to honor our mothers. So it feels full-circle (and a little poetic) to be building GEEM at the same time I’m building a new life as a mom. In wildly coincidental timing, GEEM is now on Hungryroot — a partner that makes meals easier and more nourishing, kinda what this tired new mom needs right now. Huge thanks to Keri Cardenas, Sara-Scott Smith, and Erin Hoodlebrink for bringing this launch to life. Let’s get these seaweed groceries, y’all 💚

It was a total joy to serve as the keynote speaker at The Fancy Food show at The Javitz Center yesterday. A huge thank you to the Specialty Food Association for the honor, and to everyone who spent their Sunday afternoon with me. Being in a room with so many founders and creators who share a deep passion for food was incredibly energizing and a powerful reminder of what makes this industry so special. Added bonus: my kids were there! I shared the Hungryroot story—a journey that's taken us from hand-spiralizing zucchini in a tiny kitchen to building a personalized health service powered by AI. We talked about the terrifying but necessary pivots that shaped our business, the importance of identifying your single biggest growth lever (your "Herbie"!), and why the future of food isn't just about craft, but also about using technology to lead with heart and solve real, human problems for your customers. The core message was that the brands that will define the future are those that marry the art of food with the science of personalization and connection. I left the stage more optimistic than ever, inspired by the spirit of innovation in that room.
