This week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend my first-ever academic conference, IEEE ISGT Europe 2025, held right here in my beautiful home country of Malta 🇲🇹✨! It was a truly special experience, especially with the conference achieving record attendance this year. I was honored to present two of my research projects during the event: 🔹 My current project, Integration of Solar PV Farms with an HVDC Network, conducted as part of Project DISTRICT, under the brilliant guidance of my supervisors Prof. Alexander Micallef, Prof. Ing. Maurice Apap, Prof. Ing. Cyril Spiteri Staines and Prof. Ing. John Licari. 🔹 My previous Master’s research project, Junction Temperature Measurements in Power Semiconductor Devices, supervised by Prof. Ing. Reiko Raute. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my work, connect with inspiring researchers and industry experts, and gain new insights into the future of smart grids and renewable integration. ☀️⚡💡🔌 #IEEE #ISGTEurope2025 #Malta #IEEEMalta IEEE Power & Energy Society

Great discussions at the "Skills and Innovative Education for Modern Power and Energy Systems" Panel at the IEEE PES ISGT Europe 25 Conference in Malta, yesterday. The lack of skilled professional was once more identified as a major obstacle to the energy transition. Upskilling and reskilling, modernization of academic curricula and use of digital tools for education have been highlighted, as well as the need to attract more students and talents to the energy field. Enlightening insights were presented from the EU LSP on the Digitalisation of the Energy System, the IEEE Power & Energy Society TF, ETIP SNET WG4, E.DSO and the EDDIE project. Academia and technology vendors have presented specific applications of advanced tools. The Session was organized and chaired by Panos Kotsampopoulos. Panelists: MIGUEL ANGEL SANCHEZ FORNIE, Nikos Hatziargyriou, Gráinne O'Shea, Antonello Monti, Kati Sidwall

#Power #System #Transition and #Blackouts – #Sources, #Characteristics and #Mitigation was the title of a brilliant special session today at the #ISGTEurope . with huge experience in the field and great discussions . https://lnkd.in/dmZJcAUw The session was moderated by #SrdanSkok Some highlights : Renata Rubeša underlined the shift of focus towards: #resilient by #design . She also summarized that the key question is , if we can keep the system functioning while #renewable is dominating ? Damir Novosel gave insights in technical charactertics of several blackouts and recommendations - see some selected pictures attached . The session was concluded by an insightful discussion with e.g Professor #MiguelAngerSanchesFornie at Universidad Pontificia Comillas . What I wanted to bring into the conversation is how #predictive #models , #asset #management, can be used to prevent situations leading to blackouts . This is what we investigate e.g within the research project with GOPAL LAL RAJORA . KTH Royal Institute of Technology . Thanks Brian Azzopardi and team IEEE Power & Energy Society for another day with excellent program in #Malta.
