🎙️ "Innovation in the NICU hasn't happened in the last 30+ years!" Dr. Janene Fuerch (Hogan), Impact1 co-director, spoke with Hilary Erickson on the Pulling Curls podcast and shared her insights and hopes into innovation for the youngest patients and tips for new parents of NICU babies. Impact1 at Stanford Biodesign
Hospitals and Health Care
Advancing pediatric and maternal health technology to impact lives from day one.
About us
Each year, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves far fewer health technologies for use in children than adults. This means that pediatric specialists do not always have access to the advanced tools they need to address the unique healthcare needs of their small, vulnerable patients. Stanford launched Impact1 to improve the health, safety, and quality of life of pediatric patients and pregnant women. We do this by accelerating the development and availability of high-value, high-impact pediatric health technologies. The program leverages Stanford Biodesign’s need-driven innovation process to accomplish this goal. It benefits from access to world-renowned clinicians and engineers at Stanford, as well as an unparalleled network of Silicon Valley experts in medical device product development, regulatory affairs, intellectual property, reimbursement, and commercialization. Our team also represents the Stanford collaborators of the UCSF-Stanford Pediatric Device Consortium.

🎉 Congratulations to Navi Medical Technologies and Rhaeos for being awarded the Real-World Evidence (RWE) Grant by the UCSF-Stanford Pediatric Device Consortium! The teams are working with Alyssa Abo, to design clinical trials and collect valuable data and evidence for their innovations. 🖊️ Navi’s Neonav® ECG Tip Location System helps clinicians safely and accurately place central venous access devices (CVADs) in children, reducing radiation exposure and complications 💡 Rhaeos’ FlowSense, a noninvasive skin-worn sensor, empowers rural providers to monitor hydrocephalus shunts in real time—bringing specialty neurosurgical care closer to underserved communities RWE is the use of real-world data (RWD) from everyday clinical practice to evaluate and accelerate the development of safe, effective medical devices for kids. #PediatricInnovation #MedTech #RWE #HealthcareEquity
