When Emily was an infant, her parents learned her heart tissues were damaged and that she needed a heart transplant to survive. Thankfully, Emily received her lifesaving transplant, which has allowed her to grow into a healthy young child. Her parents, Vicky and Marvin, continue to spread awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation in the Hispanic community, encouraging others to register to save lives. We had a great day of learning at Inova Fairfax Hospital yesterday. 29 healthcare professionals from Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and VHC Health joined us for a Donation Resource Specialist (DRS) training. Together, we discussed best practices and easy to strengthen our collaboration in the organ and tissue donation process.

October is #NationalLiverAwarenessMonth! There are more than 9,000 adults and children in the U.S. currently waiting for a liver transplant. Did you know that the liver is the only organ that can regenerate itself? That's what makes living liver donation possible.
