The wider stakeholder dimension always adds value! The conversation yielded a number of possible new areas for the Japan-EU cooperation under the Digital Partnership. We are both powerhouse in robotics & automation, you add AI and a new world of innovation opens up. Also, industry sees pilots in AI for Public Good as low hanging fruit. How about international AI sandboxes - can that be done (or even make sense)? And several more ideas surfaced in digital defense tech, innovation procurement and other areas. A great many thanks to all contributors. Science, Innovation, Digital Policies Section - EU Delegation Japan
🌐Towards a New Dimension of EU-Japan Digital Partnership On 15 October, 日欧産業協力センター and JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) co-hosted the EU-Japan Digital Partnership Seminar at 駐日欧州連合代表部 • Delegation of the European Union to Japan — bringing together representatives from government, industry, and academia to discuss the future direction of the EU-Japan Digital Partnership🤝. Since its launch in 2022, the Partnership has become a cornerstone of cooperation between the EU and Japan — promoting collaboration in digital governance, innovation and resilience in key technologies such as AI, semiconductors, and 5G/6G. The event welcomed over 200 participants both on-site and online combined, who gained valuable insights and up-to-date information on EU-Japan Digital Partnership and future prospects. 🎙️ Highlights from the seminar included: • Opening remarks by H.E. Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the EU to Japan • Presentations from Mitsuru Ikeda (デジタル庁 / Digital Agency), Olivier Bringer (European Commission), Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl (DIGITALEUROPE), Sebastiano Toffaletti (European DIGITAL SME Alliance) and Marco Canton (Fujitsu / Japan Business Council in Europe) • A thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Professor Naoto Ikegai (一橋大学) • Closing remarks by Yuko Shigyo, Director at JEITA 💬 The discussions emphasised how the EU and Japan can deepen cooperation to ensure that digital transformation supports a prosperous, secure and sustainable future. The seminar concluded with a networking reception fostering direct dialogue between European and Japanese participants — a great example of partnership in action! 🔗 日欧産業協力センター remains committed to promoting dialogue and collaboration between Europe and Japan in the digital field, contributing to mutual growth and innovation. #EUJapan #DigitalPartnership #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #AI #Semiconductors #5G #EUJapanCentre #EUDigital #JapanDigital #EUJapanRelations
