The next generation of quantum innovators put their computational skills to the test at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s iQuHack 2026 this week, accepting the hands-on challenge of simulating the real-world complexities of a future quantum internet. We were thrilled by the creativity, ambition, and fresh thinking these innovators brought to the table, using entanglement distillation to establish quantum network connections, bridging theory and practice with the help of IonQ’s hardware and simulation tools. With talent like this, the future of quantum is looking bright. #QuantumComputing #QuantumInternet #iQuHack #STEMCareers

Think there's plenty of time to prepare for #Q-Day - that point when quantum computers break through today's best encryption techniques? Guess again... "People assume the Q-day was happening in 2040...I think it is going to arrive like a freight train by the end of the current US administration," IonQ CEO Niccolo De Masi told The Economic Times while at the #WEF in #Davos. Breaking encryption will pose a threat to everything from blockchains, to banking systems, communications networks, and national infrastructure. But the good news is that quantum also holds the promise of unbreakable post-quantum encryption -- and Niccolo's expecting a surge in spending on post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution to protect critical infrastructure. Read more of his thinking on quantum's impact on security, AI, and related topics in the article embedded below. Let us know in the comments what you think about the race to secure everyone's secrets... #quantum #encrytption #cybersecurity #quantumkeydistribution

What actually determines whether a quantum computer can deliver real value? On Bloomberg Intelligence’s Tech Disruptors podcast, IonQ CEO Niccolo De Masi explains why quantum performance is defined by fidelity - not just qubit counts - and how this distinction is accelerating the path to fault-tolerant, commercially viable systems. The episode also highlights real-world deployments already underway with enterprise and government partners, from drug discovery and advanced logistics to energy optimization and secure communications. “We're all betting on quantum”: IonQ’s CEO Niccolo De Masi alongside Dr. John M. Martinis, the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, and a distinguished panel underscore there’s ton of momentum around the field of quantum - from how fast is it commercializing across logistics, big pharma and solving “real world problems at speed,” to what is truly happening in academia in the labs. Peggy Johnson of Agility Robitics, stressed that you have to continuously “think about technology in different ways… and “put new ideas into practice.” The university Chancellors and President discussed their innovation ecosystems and partnerships and Sassine Ghazi and Niccolo emphasized that bilingual talent is essential to a successful quantum future. This is the spirit of #WEF26 Davos, bringing together the most brilliant minds in academia and private sector leaders on the cutting edge of innovation.
