IHA’s Hospital Heroes program celebrates employees who have acted courageously or selflessly served their hospitals and communities throughout their careers. IHA presented 11 Hospital Heroes awards at its annual meeting. During a fierce blizzard, a team of professionals from UnityPoint Health and MercyOne came together to save the life of a 4-year-old girl from Bondurant. Recovering from heart surgery, the child faced a complication that required immediate transfer to Children's Nebraska in Omaha. Despite treacherous weather and the child’s fragile state, this team of six orchestrated a high-risk transport through meticulous planning, clear communication and unwavering dedication. The team successfully navigated the storm and delivered the child safely to Omaha, where she underwent lifesaving surgery.
