About us
Jersey Cares is a dynamic nonprofit organization that meets community needs by making volunteering in New Jersey easy and meaningful. Jersey Cares works directly with local nonprofit organizations and schools, identifying their needs and training volunteer leaders to manage projects that address them. Jersey Cares volunteers have provided thousands of hours of service to communities, including: mentoring troubled teens, reaching out to isolated seniors, working with the mentally and physically challenged, restoring the environment and assisting children with their schoolwork. Jersey Cares offers meaningful volunteer opportunities that showcase the rewards of civic engagement and address some of our communities’ most serious needs. Additionally, Jersey Cares is committed to closing the opportunity gap in Essex County. We will enhance the professional development of young people who live in and around Newark and reduce youth unemployment through two key workforce development programs; the Youth Workforce Development Fellowship and the Park Ambassador, Summer Youth Employment Program. A rewarding day spent giving back with my American Arbitration Assosciation colleagues through Jersey Cares Earth Keepers project! We rolled up our sleeves to help restore the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery, a true piece of New Jersey history. One of the highlights was getting to feed the friendly goats and sheep that help keep the grounds looking their best. We closed out September with an incredible day of service alongside Opella. Nearly 200 volunteers came together on Friday, September 26th, to revitalize Unity Charter School and spend time engaging with students. After a hard day of work, the school was filled with new energy and color thanks to inspirational hallway murals, a revitalized outdoor classroom space, little free libraries, benches, freshly painted planter pots, line games, and more – all created by the Opella team.
