    Your First Impression Isn’t in the Interview. By the time someone shows up to the interview, it’s already too late to make a first impression. That moment happens much earlier, in your lobby. Think of it like a property walk-through: From the curb to the entryway, every detail shapes perception. Candidates are walking through your company long before the interview, through: -Your job post and careers page (digital curb appeal) -Initial recruiter/hiring manager reach-outs and messaging (the front door) -Video screens/intro calls (the main hallway) And in every one of those early moments, they’re asking themselves: “Is this the right place for me and the kind of home I want to grow in?” They’re not just evaluating the job title or salary. They’re trying to answer deeper questions: Will I feel a sense of belonging here? Does this team understand who I am and where I’m headed? Can I build something meaningful, not just clock in and out? Every interaction from a listing to a live conversation reinforces that sense of home and forward momentum… Or makes them quietly keep walking. And the people who guide that experience? -Leasing professionals and sales reps -Interviewers and hiring managers -Brand and marketing team members They’re not just doing a job but defining your brand in real time.     Candidates & Hiring Managers: Two Sides of the Same Coin (Placement)! As I prepare candidates and clients for interviews this week, I'm reminded that interviews are two sides of the same coin. In my experience, when candidates and hiring managers approach these conversations with preparation and purpose, it usually leads to clarity and connection. As a recruiter, it's my job to bridge that gap, ensuring both parties are prepared and expectations are managed. Here's what each side can focus on to create a productive and meaningful interview experience every time: For Candidates   - Convey Enthusiasm & Interest: Show genuine curiosity about the role.   - Ask with Purpose: Use questions that dig deeper into the team and culture.   - Express Your Values: Share what aligns you with your company.   - Answer with Structure: Organize responses to highlight your skills. (If you haven't heard about the "STAR" method, there is a ton of information and articles on how to use this model to help guide you on the best way to answer challenging and unexpected interview questions that may come your way). - Show Appreciation: A simple thank you goes a long way during and after the interview. For Hiring Managers - Welcome & Encourage Openness: Set the stage with a comfortable tone to create an authentic and rapport-building environment. - Probe Beyond the Resume: Reveal the candidate's potential.   - Share Team & Culture Insights: Give a real glimpse into the work environment(don't oversell, but be genuine so both sides know what they are getting into if this hire is made).   - Listen Actively & Engage: Make the candidate feel valued and heard.   - Provide Clear Next Steps: Promote transparency. Remember, when the interview ends, it doesn't mean the conversation does—follow-up and clear next steps are essential to ensure alignment and maintain momentum on both sides.
