We celebrate great coffee and the people who love it — with warm hospitality, a genuine vibe, and delicious coffee.

About us

Joe Coffee Company was founded in 2003 as a single specialty coffee shop in Manhattan's West Village. Our vision was to brew the highest quality coffees and serve them with unsurpassed hospitality. Today we have over 20 locations, roast our own coffee at our own Long Island City roastery, and are proud to have a wide range of licensing and wholesale relationships. Over the years, a set of cultural values have emerged that define who we are and dictate how we operate: CURIOSITY: We are eager learners. Whether it's our customers, our coffee, or our coworkers, we keenly explore and engage with the world. CRAFT: We obsess over every detail and put intention behind everything we do. We place the highest value on training and education. COMMITMENT: We wake up early, hustle hard, rinse and repeat. It's not easy, but the passion shows in every we cup we serve. COMMUNITY: We embrace the diverse and vibrant nature of our communities. We encourage and invest in the neighborhoods in and around each Joe cafe.

  • This October, we’re proud to support Community Voices Heard (CVH) through our in-cafe round-up campaign. CVH is a member-led, multiracial organization, primarily made up of women of color and low-income families, working to build power and drive change across New York State. We sat down with Juanita Lewis, Executive Director of CVH, to hear how their members are tackling housing justice, economic equity, and civic participation—and how everyday contributions, like rounding up your coffee, help fuel this work. From winning nearly $500,000 for East Harlem tenants to centering Black women’s leadership through the Follow Black Women project, CVH shows how organized communities create real, lasting change. Next time you stop by the cafe, round up your order and join us in supporting CVH’s mission this October. https://lnkd.in/gytYCt6N

  • As we celebrate #NationalCoffeeDay, we’re reflecting on a year that’s been anything but simple. Tariffs, climate change, and the political climate have made our work harder than ever—but they’ve also reminded us why we do it. Every cup is an opportunity to connect with the farmers who grow it, the baristas who serve it, and the communities who gather around it. It’s our way of leaving the world better than we found it. With so many options out there, we’re grateful you choose to share your daily cup with us and supporting coffee that truly makes a difference.

  • 22 years ago, Joe Coffee began as a single cafe on the corner of Waverly and Gay in New York City. At the time, we couldn’t have imagined the path ahead—growing from that one shop into a company spanning more than twenty cafes, catering, wholesale, education, tech, and a thriving online shop. At every step, one thing has remained at the heart of Joe: community. From day one to today, it’s always been about bringing people together—neighbors, friends, and strangers alike—over a shared love of good coffee. That’s why we’re excited to share our latest step forward: a refreshed online shop powered by our new partnership with Shopify. On our new site, you’ll find: - Faster checkout - Easier browsing - A more seamless subscription program - Incentives for bundling products - A fuller view of our wholesale, catering, training, and education offerings - Stories about our team and the work we’ve done in our community over the past 22 years This experience is designed to bring Joe closer to you—wherever you are. A big thank you to the Riess Group - A CQL Company for helping bring this site to life—and for surviving the late nights fueled by coffee. We’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of our journey so far. Here’s to the road ahead—and to the community that makes it all possible. https://lnkd.in/eqcN3kvG

  • 🌎 We’re proud to be part of #ClimateWeekNYC again this year! At Joe Coffee, we’re always looking for ways to make the biggest impact and leave the world better than we found it: 🐸 80% of our coffees are Rainforest Alliance certified. This means farmers use methods that support social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and everyone in the supply chain—including roasters—is held to rigorous, third-party-verified standards. 📦 Better Packaging Co.'s POLLAST!C mailers give ocean-bound plastic a second life. Collected within 30 miles of coastlines, this plastic prevents thousands of single-use plastics from entering the ocean each year, lowers CO₂ emissions, and supports local communities through fair wages. ♻️ Reusable cups help reduce disposable waste at our cafes. This week, we’re launching a new line of neighborhood-inspired reusable cups—bring one with you to lessen your footprint and enjoy a discount for choosing to use it Every choice counts. Every cup matters.

  • One week into our new seasonal menu, and it’s already our biggest launch yet. The excitement around these drinks shows we’ve hit the sweet spot—delivering bold, playful flavors that resonate with younger audiences while staying true to our specialty coffee roots and commitment to quality. This season introduces cold foam in vanilla, cinnamon apple, popcorn, and pumpkin spice, along with two new matcha creations: Strawberry Matcha and Apple Picking Matcha. We’ve also brought back fan-favorites like the Banana Bread Latte (also available as a hot chocolate!) and finally added Pumpkin Spice to the menu. Over the years, our staff beverage competition has sparked some of Joe’s most memorable creations, and this season was no different. Jordi from HQ’s Miso Brown Butter Latte and Andy from Columbia Business School’s Pomegranate Mocha are this fall’s standout winners, showcasing the creativity and passion of our team. Two decades after opening our first cafe in the Village, we’ve seen plenty of trends come and go—and some stick around (looking at you, oat milk and cold brew). Through it all, our mission remains the same: to move coffee forward with innovation, while staying rooted in the quality, craft, and community that define Joe.

Founder and CEO of Joe Coffee

Dear Joeys, It’s hard to believe…. It feels like just yesterday that I was behind the counter six days a week, making espresso drinks and welcoming customers. When we opened on July 17th, 2003, I was joined by my mother, my sister, our first director of coffee, Amanda Byron, and one experienced barista named Shane. Our menu back then was quite limited; it was the beginning of what we then called Third Wave Coffee in New York. At that time, people primarily enjoyed Americanos and whole milk cafe lattes, just starting to embrace the concept of single-origin coffee. We only accepted cash, punched loyalty cards by hand, and sold jarred candy by the pound—but I digress! Our coffee was roasted by our wonderful partners at Barrington Coffee Roasters. Walking into the original shop on Waverly Place 22 years later always feels a bit surreal. I was there this morning. Ask anyone I work with, and they'll tell you that my favorite moments at Joe Coffee Company are running into original customers whom I made coffee for. It boggles my mind that we have dedicated regulars who have been visiting us nearly every day for over 8,000 days. The cafe mostly looks the same—this is intentional—and it feels the same. I still watch people trying great coffee for the first time and see people connecting with others on our benches outside or at the tables inside. The authentic interactions between customers and staff remain, creating this magical atmosphere that many find essential to their daily lives. Our menu has evolved, of course. The world has changed, and specialty coffee shops now lead their menus with innovative and creative beverages featuring unusual and fascinating flavors. Although we didn’t start this movement, we embraced it back in 2011 with our seasonal beverage contest among staff members. This tradition continues, and we’ve already judged our staff-created beverages for late 2025 into 2026. The competition is fierce, and it’s become an integral part of our culture. This week, we even added cold foam to our drinks because… it’s absolutely delicious! There’s been a strong movement toward quality matcha-based drinks which is why we partnered with my old neighbor and our longtime friends at Kettl to continue bringing you the best of the best. And now you can find Joe as cans and specialty instant coffee on supermarket shelves, airports, hotels and even other people’s cafes. Who would’ve ever thought? What I’m saying is that we’re a bit different now, yet still the same. The world changes, New York changes, coffee culture changes—we change. However, when I step back and look at today’s menu, I feel excited and inspired about what the cafe experience will be in 2025 and what it can become. We plan to keep being part of that journey, meeting folks wherever they are in life, and fostering community not only in our cafes but all over the country. Yours truly, Jonathan Rubinstein
