"The path is clear—we have to meet researchers where they already work, this is the intentional path Wiley has taken: connecting our quality, trusted content and data to the powerful AI tools we know researchers are using." Yesterday, Josh Jarrett (Senior Vice President & General Manager, AI Growth) spoke to attendees at #FBM25, sharing powerful insights from our ExplanAItions 2025 study — including how AI is already influencing researcher behavior and reshaping the publishing landscape. “The opportunity is enormous. We have access to the world's most trusted content. We have relationships with the people who create knowledge and the institutions that fund it. We have tech that didn't exist five years ago. If we can connect all of that for real-world impact, publishers stop being middlemen in the knowledge economy and start being essential architects of knowledge itself.” Earlier this week, Jay Flynn spoke to attendees at #FBM25 about how publishers can move forward, innovate, and reimagine our value in an AI-driven world. Stop thinking of AI as a chatbot. Start thinking of it as software at scale. We're at an inflection point. The question isn't whether AI will transform knowledge—it's whether we'll shape that transformation and make the most of it. Be part of building the future of AI in research and publishing with our Episode 1 of Chats, a discussion between Senior Director of AI Product Management and Strategy, Ray Abruzzi, and BMJ's CTO Ian Mulvany. Meet Dr. Tasha Faruqui, pediatrician, advocate, and author of Keep Your Head Up: A Mother's Story of Chasing Joy in the Face of Grief. Named a top doctor by Cincinnati Magazine in 2022 and 2024, she empowers parents of children with complex medical needs through expertise and compassion. In this installment of Portraits & Pages, we celebrate her remarkable journey and the stories that shape her mission. “My writing journey began with storytelling, born out of necessity. I started by writing family blogs to keep our loved ones informed about my daughter’s medical condition. Over time, that evolved into advocacy—first for my daughter, and then for all children with disabilities. As I shared our story more publicly, I transitioned into writing articles to further amplify awareness and create understanding. Writing became a more expansive and meaningful way to share not only our personal experience but also to advocate and connect with others who might be walking a similar path. My life experiences have been the driving force behind writing a book. As a physician and a parent of a medically complex child, particularly one who lived without a clear diagnosis for 13 years and eventually entered hospice, I found myself in a space of deep isolation. I had no community and no clear guide on how to navigate such an emotionally complex life. When I searched for guidance, especially in the realm of anticipatory grief, I found very little. I longed for a book that could help me figure out how to simply live—day to day—in the face of such uncertainty. Eventually, with encouragement from a few incredible people, I realized that if the book I needed didn’t exist, maybe I could write it. I hope that what I’ve written offers something valuable to a wide range of people. Physicians and healthcare professionals—who often have only fifteen minutes with a patient—have told me that the book helps them make that time more impactful. Parents of special needs children say they feel less alone and more understood. Even healthy, neurotypical kids find resonance in the universal desire to do right by their children. More than anything, I hope the book offers a sense of direction and companionship for anyone who finds themselves in a life that didn’t go as expected. My writing is deeply rooted in my everyday life. It’s honest, raw, and emotional—full of grief, love, and joy. I don’t hold back, because at this point, I feel like I have nothing left to lose if I am already losing my child. That openness has become my way of connecting, and if my vulnerability can help even one person feel less alone, then I’ll keep writing. Outside of writing, I find joy in connecting with new people and hearing their stories. I spend time meditating, exploring local restaurants, enjoying good coffee, and most importantly, soaking up quiet moments with my family—often in what we lovingly call our cuddle puddle.”
