Blending comfort with craftsmanship, the Corte Madera Bunkhouse is rooted in sustainability. This new 1,900-sf, 2-story bunkhouse, located on a 4,000-acre working ranch, incorporates efficient Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) layouts for the bearing walls, second floor, and roof. Precision fabrication was used to ensure minimal waste on a site with limited road access for large trucks. The result is a primary structure that was erected in only five days, with hidden connections that provide a seamless finish. KPFF is honored to receive a Grand Award in this year’s Engineering Excellence Awards National Competition from ACEC for our work on the Terminal Core Redevelopment project at Portland International Airport. This recognition highlights outstanding engineering achievements nationwide, with nominations selected by local ACEC chapters for design teams’ innovation, creativity, and impact. The new 9-acre terminal was a true community effort—made possible through in-depth collaboration, technical excellence, and shared vision. We’re incredibly grateful to our colleagues, our partners on the project, including GRI, PAE, and ZGF Architects, as well as the Port of Portland, and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for this recognition. We remain committed to pushing the boundaries of design excellence for years to come. Construction of the Highway 99W Pedestrian Bridge in Sherwood continues. The new bicycle and pedestrian bridge, designed with connectivity as a top priority, offers a significantly safer route for pedestrians, and connects an existing and planned trail network. The most recent milestone was the placement of the final two spans by Carter & Company last Saturday. This recent work completes the bridge's signature structural form, with undulating traditional and inverted arch trusses in five supported spans. Construction crews will now move to installing the bridge deck, railings, approach ramps, and an extensive architectural lighting system, all in anticipation of the grand opening this fall. https://lnkd.in/gKvKfkmj Video courtesy of ACMS Northwest #pedestrianbridge #bridgedesign #sherwood #structuralengineering #bridgeengineering

Construction has been in full swing at the Cox Performing Arts Center project in St. George, UT. Adding a new 400 seater balcony with a 28’-0” cantilever inside an existing auditorium was a unique design challenge for our team at KPFF Consulting Engineers Salt Lake City, and forced us think out of the box to make the owners vision a reality. We are excited to see this project come to life and be an integral part of the St. George and Utah Tech University community. Special thanks to Layton Construction & Sparano + Mooney Architecture for being great partners.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀! We recently choreographed a different kind of performance—hoisting two 15,000-pound steel beams into the America First Performing Arts Center at Utah Tech University. These 55-foot giants are setting the stage for something extraordinary: a new balcony that will help welcome 1,400 guests to experience the magic of live performance. The expanded theater will be a cornerstone for arts and entertainment in the City of St. George, featuring an enhanced lobby, improved backstage facilities, and lighting and sound systems. From intimate performances to large-scale productions, this renovated venue will serve the growing Washington County community for years to come. Behind every beam is a story of collaboration. Thank you Sparano + Mooney Architecture for the vision and KPFF Consulting Engineers for making it structurally possible.

We are thrilled to partner with NBBJ Design on our latest blog post, which explores how seismic retrofitting can do more than just enhance safety—it can also revitalize aging buildings and improve user experience. Drawing from our collaborative work on projects like the UCLA Wooden Center Seismic Upgrade, this article delves into strategies that align structural resilience with thoughtful design.
