The Learning Community is a K-8 public school proving poverty is not a barrier to achievement. We serve over 580 students in our school and hundreds of other teachers and students in the schools where we work as professional development partners. This work fulfills our bold mission: At The Learning Community, we believe that literacy empowers each individual to have a voice, assume community responsibility and take social action. Exploratorium Spotlight⚡ Our 3rd grade afterschool students had an amazing time with Save The Bay yesterday! They got to touch a spider crab, work in teams to explore ocean habitats, and even received a book as a gift.🦀 Such a fun and hands-on learning experience thanks to our friends @SaveTheBayRI !💙
To wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month, our 1st grade students brought culture and creativity to life!🎨 They made their very own piñatas and learned a traditional song that’s heard when hitting them.🪅 There is so much curiosity and joy in learning about Hispanic traditions! Last Saturday, our 1st grade families gathered for a picnic on the playground.🧺🛝 It was a wonderful way for students and families to connect with teachers, build bonds, share meals, and enjoy the beautiful day together.🌞 Building strong family partnerships is at the heart of what we do, and we’re excited for more elementary picnics next month, as well as our Middle Grades BBQ on the 22nd!🍽️

Our summer program was packed with fun!☀️ Students met amazing animals, cruised the Blackstone River, created nature sculptures, made tie-dye shirts, enjoyed movie days, crafted nonstop, cooled off with ice cream sundaes, and more!🎨🐾🍦 We hope everyone has been enjoying the break and can't wait to see you all at the end of August!😎

Big thanks to the Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corporation (RIHEBC)! The Learning Community and Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy are among 43 local organizations awarded funding through RIHEBC’s Capital Grant Program. 🏫 The Learning Community received $25,000 to renovate classroom flooring and improve outdoor irrigation, enhancing both indoor and outdoor learning environments. 🎉 Blackstone Valley Prep received $25,000 to furnish 10 new classrooms, helping meet the needs of a growing student body.
