What if we could identify the objects most likely to drive debris growth in LEO? Good news! We can. In this month's ORBINT, we're highlighting the work of LeoLabs Senior Research Fellow Dr Darren McKnight and his coauthors as they recently updated the "Top 50" list of the most concerning objects in LEO. McKnight and his coauthors leveraged LeoLabs analytic tools to identify these objects by analyzing their proximity to other space traffic, their altitude, and their mass. The authors argue that these 50 objects should be prioritized for active debris removal (ADR) operations to ensure the continued safety of operational satellites in LEO. "We can make a measurable impact on the debris-generating potential, and the potential for the onset of the Kessler Syndrome by removing 10 or 20 objects. The bad news is we just added 26 new objects in the last two years," said Mcknight in an interview with Ars Technica. 📄 Download the paper: https://bit.ly/43je2Dc 🔗 Read McKnight's interview: https://bit.ly/48ZEENh #ORBINT #SpaceSafety #IAC2025

LeoLabs Object Catalog is the industry gold standard, fueled by our rapidly proliferating Global Radar Network. ✅ Comprehensive — we track 99.3% of the public catalog ✅ Timely — we deliver measurements within 45 seconds of observation ✅ Persistent — we observe high-interest objects up to 13x per day In today's threat environment, speed is critical — we're only getting better and faster. See us next week at #IAC2025 in the New South Wales Government Pavilion to learn more. #ORBINT #SpaceSecurity #SpaceSafety

SC funded LeoLabs and Varda Space Industries have successfully demonstrated their ability to support advanced national security missions. In May, Varda launched a reusable capsule that re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at over 18,000 mph, with precise trajectory tracking provided by LeoLabs. The exercise proved that their combined technologies could track hypersonic re-entry objects in real time. This demonstration positions both companies as valuable contributors to the Golden Dome program, aimed at building the next generation of U.S. missile defense. In today's threat environment, speed is critical. Unfortunately, the U.S. Government's ability to rapidly track space threats is falling behind, warned USSF General Saltzman at last week's AMOS Conference. “We cannot be satisfied if it takes us hours to detect on-orbit activity, and we definitely cannot be satisfied if full characterization of on-orbit events takes weeks and months,” he said. “The longer it takes to update the catalog, the more problematic the issue, the less domain awareness we have.” The solution? Accelerating space domain awareness capabilities through industry partnerships. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e3wBa_9G #ORBINTInsight #NationalSecuritySpace #SpaceSecurity
